Forever isn't Always

Chapter 5

Me and Marcus sit in silence as we both do our work. Mine consists of a short essay about me and my goals and his is mapping out the populations of his vampires. I finish my essay within the hour and I lean back in my seat. I stare across at him, his eyebrows are furrowed as he writes down something on the map. "So serious" I tease and his eyes turn up at me.

He smirks and kisses my hand "sorry love, Caden says some of my vampires a state over are breaking my laws" he shakes his head "they are feeding over limit, putting some in the hospital and two deaths have occurred" his hand balls and his eyes turn dark "they might be apart of Cain's minions trying to destroy my progress and corrupt others...I thought I had weeded out all of them"

"Hey" I walk around the desk and sit in his lap "stop, you're doing amazing." I hold his cheek in my hands "it could be accidents or new borns, please don't blame yourself" I beg

He sighs and nods "you're right...I'm just stressed. Taking on a whole country is harder than I thought" he laughs nervously and I kiss his cheek

"Oh by the way Lucia is coming over today" he tells me as he continues to write notes

"Oh lovely" I smile, missing her "Why?"

"She wanted to introduce us to her great granddaughter" he tells me

My eyes widen "I didn't even know she had kids?"

"The witch trait skipped her daughter and granddaughter so she was never that close with them. Her granddaughter called her a few days ago telling her Bri was showing signs of witch craft and powers, Lucia picked her up and brought her to her home" he tells me and I nod through his explanation

"Wow, well I can't wait to meet her" I say and a second later the doorbell rings

Marcus stands and follows after me as I walk to the front door. Opening it I'm met with the familiar purple eyes of Lucia, her graying blonde hair is bobbed and voluminous. "Rose" she says and hugs my neck, I smile and hug her back

Beside her is a girl with big curls of dirty blonde hair, the curls cascade down her chest like a waterfall. Her skin is tan which causes her blue eyes to pop. A small smile rests itself on her thin lips. "This is Briana" Lucia points to her

I shake her hand as Marcus comes up behind me, clutching my waist "you can call me Bri" she says and I nod with a friendly smile

"I'm Rose and this is Marcus, it's nice to meet you" Marcus shakes her hand and welcomes them in the house

"Lucia would you mind helping me with something? I might need you to cast a spell to assist me with communicating to all of my vampires" he says be Lucia nods

"Of course" she smiles and pats Bri on the shoulder

The two of them walk back into the office "are you hungry?" I ask and she smiles and nods

"Sure" I walk her to the kitchen, giving her a small tour of the rooms we pass by

"Do you want some fruit...or a sandwich? We don't have much food since I'm the only one who eats around here" I laugh nervously as she sits at the bar

"I'll take an apple if you've got one" she says and I smile and nod handing her one out of the fridge

"So how are you liking it here so far?" I ask
