I woke up in the morning with disappointment when I recognized the same ceiling. It seems Darren let me live as I am still Caden. He wasn't beside me when I woke up. Relieved. I climb out of my bed and head to the bathroom.

Looking at the mirror, I saw a bruise around my neck. I sighed deeply before washing my face and changing clothes.

Ah... I don't feel like I want to stay here today. This place feels so stuffy. I head to my desk and grab a paper.

'I'm going to the town, return before dawn.'

There! Since I got here, there's never been a situation where my presence is needed. I guess going out for a day won't do any harm. Besides, I already got myself into trouble. I don't care how many other problems will follow after this. I want to breathe some fresh air! I wear a cap and glasses, take my wallet and small bag before heading out.

This is the first time I am going to the town alone. I first passed the town on the day I got here. The second is after my marriage. But, on both occasions, I always stay in the car, never experience being the real town people. After traveling along the route in the subway and walking between buildings, I finally reached the central area.

The busy street filled with people. Tourists, merchants, and office workers are passing by from every direction. I do like the quiet countryside feels but sometimes I miss the business of being in the city. It makes me feel small and insignificant. I'm just a small matter, living in this big world. I inhale deeply, then start walking.

I stroll slowly while observing the food stalls on the street, big buildings or stores around, people talk with each other. Office workers are getting in-and-out around the building. It's fascinating. My eyes fall on the food stall of which looks like they sell a hot dog. People are lining up and I join, while still observing the surroundings. Once I reach the seller I order one with a drink. I ate on the nearby standing table. The taste is just okay, I don't know why people line up for it. Because it's been so long since the last time I ate junk food, I give it a pass. I start to continue my walks toward the market where it looks the busiest.

It's interesting how new technology collaborate with the medieval way of living in this world. Many payments were done cashless, but the products that are being sold are very natural. Fresh from the farm. There was almost no processed food sold. That hot dog stall is the only sold and the one thing closest to the junk food. People sell in person and some even bargaining the price. Really interesting. I already bought some food that I've never seen before. Also, cute souvenirs. Just act like a tourist. I was sightseeing the unique handcrafted wood ornament when I heard a ruckus from across the street.

People briefly check out and I follow their sight. I join a small crowd of people who gather to see what all of these are about. On the street, lay a boy and a man who looks so angry at him. People just surround them, talking to each other without doing anything.

"Never come into my store again, you filthy Omega!" The older man said to the boy. The boy crawled on the floor and held the man's legs, begging, "Please, give me last month's payment." The man kicked the boy. "Why should I give you any money? You lied to me for being an Omega! Your heat can affect my customers and ruin my business!" he said.

'Again?' 'Another Omega making a problem in the workplace?' 'Why can't they just stay home?' 'Did they know how their heat affects people around?' 'They should have just got a partner when their first heat came?' 'Did he go into trouble because of his heat?' 'Did their suppressant not working?'

So many toxic whispers. I was too focused listening to town people that I didn't realize that the man had grabbed a glass bottle. Somehow I know that he will smash it to the boy. Before my logic can think of any of the consequences, I head in between them and make a shield with my hand. The man smashed the bottle into my skin. The shredding glass falls everywhere. Everyone looks surprised at what I've done. Defending an Omega is probably not a norm here.

I stood up and looked at the man who seemed surprised at what I've done. "You don't need to use violence," I said with a deep cold tone. I haven't let go of my real self inside the house but because no one here knows me here, I don't feel any necessity to pretend. I'm a Beta so I can't use the dominance's trait like an Alpha, but I can emit enough killing intent to scare them.

The man backs off, showing hesitancy to continue. "Ju... just make that boy go away!" he said. I immediately pulled the boy up and dragged him to walk with me. People make ways for us. I don't really care about their stare. I don't know why I did that. I already promise myself not to get involved in anything until I know the proper and safe way to live in this world. Probably it's just an instinct or a flash of empathy. At that moment, I just feel like I need to help him.

I walk fast while dragging him besides. I remember seeing a clinic while strolling around. After following the path from my memories, we arrived in front of it and immediately went in. The inside was so quiet in comparison to how busy the town is. A woman, wearing a doctor coat, greeted us. "Please treat his injury," I said to her. She startled a bit upon our sudden commotion but immediately gave us a room.

Nana, the doctor, first cleans the boy's body with a wet towel before applying cleansing alcohol, betadine, and bandage. The boy looks sad and starts to cry while being treated. In the end, Nana gave him a pill which made him fall asleep before long. "Let me treat your wound," Nana suddenly said to me. She pointed at my left arm that has been bleeding for a while. I sighed a little before taking a seat and let her treat me.

"What is your name?" she asked me. I am hesitant to give her my name. I'm sure 'Caden' is not that rare, but just to be safe... "Rene."

She looked at me for a while before continuing to treat my wounds, "An uncommon name you have." I ignore her gaze and just observe how she treats me. "I'm not around here," I said. It was both the truth and a lie. "Quite heroic things to do, saving an Omega," she said. I look at her with one of my eyebrows raised. "What's the problem of an Omega anyway?" I asked. She chuckled a bit, "Well, I am a doctor so I know that they are actually quite pitiful," she started, "but most people don't really value them. Especially in this peaceful era where the death rate has finally decreased."

Okay, I need to learn more about this world history. I don't really get what she is talking about.

"What surprised me is that a Beta, like you, saved him," she continued. "And what do you mean by a 'Beta like me'?" I asked. "Well, I don't want to judge, but most Beta don't want to get involved with everything with Omega. To avoid problems with the Alphas," she said. Her explanation surprised and confused me. A lot. I really need to gather more knowledge about how people see others in term of their secondary sex in this world.

The clock distracted the silence when it finally reached six in the evening. Oh shit! I need to get back. "I really need to go now," I said to her after she finished bandaging my wounds. I immediately pay her for treating me and the boy wounds also give extras, asking her to give the money to the boy. Afterward, I left the clinic and headed back to the Sealgair household as fast as I could.
