XANDER'S POV
It was past three in the afternoon when I finished the second major surgery for today for a thirty-seven-year-old Caucasian woman who has had large uterine fibroids and badly needed to remove them. I am elated at the operation's success because I am fully aware of this patient's intense desire to bear a child. I mean, who doesn't want to have babies?
I know a guy before, a doctor for vaginas specifically, who only wants to fuck women and leave tattoos on—
So generally, fibroids are just those noncancerous growths that appear in the uterus and are very common in women of child-bearing age. They are usually harmless and tend to disappear or shrink after the menopausal age but when complications occur, it can be a really huge problem.
In the case of this particular patient, her fibroids are so large they are blocking her fallopian tubes and affecting her bladder. It is also giving her constant pelvic pain and urinary problems so instead of having a hysterectomy as the first option so we can totally get rid of those damn tumors, we decided to do a myomectomy to keep her uterus intact and healthy for her future babies.
Future babies...
My first one is on her way now, and I can't wait to finally hold her in my arms. God, my oxygenated blood rushes back to my heart faster than normal every time I think about finally having my family with Emily.
I throw my disposable surgical gown and gloves in the trash bin, slip my lab coat back on and excitedly take my phone out from the pocket to finally call my girl— woman, I mean, a beautiful woman who is carrying my first child, my baby Alexa...
She's the third most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me, with Emily as the second one, and my mom as the first...
To be honest, I wasn't able to concentrate on the last surgery because Emily keeps on slipping in and out of my thoughts. I have been worrying about her. I actually wanted to take her with me this morning for a comprehensive exam including an ultrasound because my instinct has been poking me and telling me that something is wrong since we got home yesterday. Sometimes, it's difficult to diagnose or detect possible problems because some symptoms can be mistaken as normal and just a part of pregnancy.
I dismissed the thoughts away and just decided to do it later because she was totally glued to the bed, and I should not be late for the surgeries.
I want her delivery to be as normal as possible, and our first baby to be healthy, but I have always been worried about her blood disease. My worry about it intensified even more after opening a particular e-mail last night. It was an update about Von Willebrand disease. It has nothing to do with pregnancy actually, but it definitely induced my paranoia.
I trust Dr. Jacobs in this. Being Emily's main obstetrician and the best one in our hospital, she is the more experienced and knowledgeable one when it comes to pregnancies, while I am more focused in the field of gynecology.
We also have to work with Dr. Reynolds, the resident hematologist, because of the bleeding problems that we could possibly encounter with the epidural anesthesia.
