So, my friend is very, very obsessed with Magic: the Gathering, and oh my gosh I finally understand why. it's so fun.

So, he convinced me to go to this Magic event at the library, with a bunch of people playing or learning, so I went. And basically, beginners got to pick a deck, and I, of course, picked Blue. And it turned out to be the best one for me to pick!

There's five colors/types of magic: White, focused on honor and light; Red, working with fire and speed; Green, with nature magic; Black, which has to do with shadows and death; and then Blue, which deals with air, water, and mind magic. Which is pretty cool.

So then there's a bunch of different cards, like Lands, Creatures, Instants, and Sorceries (to start off with. I'm sure there are more cards). Lands give you mana when you tap them, which pays for creatures or spells to enter the battlefield. Creatures have numbers on them like 2/2, which means when it attacks, it deals 2 damage (power) and it dies if it takes 2 or more damage (toughness). some cards have other things, like 1/3 or 5/4. Some of them have things that say "when it enters the battlefield, draw a card" or something like that. It's fun. And then you start out with 20 life and you have to get your opponent down to 0 life.

Then there are spells like Mind Sculpt, which makes your opponent move five of their cards into their discard pile! (That's my favorite card, but don't tell the creature cards that.)

So, a basic rundown of my deck:

12 Lands

2 Wind Drakes

2 Kraken Hatchlings

Gryff Vanguard

Archaeomancer

Mist Raven

Jace's Phantasm

Vedalken Entrancer

Scroll Thief (Merfolk Rogue)

2 Thought Scour (an Instant card, but the drawing is kinda creepy)

Mind Sculpt (Sorcery)

Sleep (Sorcery)

Divination (Sorcery, I think)

Switcheroo (Sorcery, but I haven't used it yet)

Essence Scatter (Instant)

Unsummon (Instant, and that's all of them!)

So there's 30 cards in a deck, and, yeah. I played against 4 people and won every time! Although I'm fairly sure my friend let me win for example purposes.

And if you're thinking about getting into Magic: the Gathering, I would definitely recommend it.
