It was an unusual start to the day when James found himself the first to be awake in the Potter household. However, after a large celebration over Fred's and George's birthday, it was to be expected that everyone was going to be a bit tired. How fitting it was for the two troublemakers to be born on the first of April, always quite the handful for their parents and siblings included. But it had turned out to be another wonderful day at the Burrow as the skies remained clear and all of the children (with the exception of Percy who kept Renata to himself) gathered to play. Unfortunately, it was Arthur who had made the grave mistake of buying sweets for all of the children, leaving them extremely hyper until they crashed in the late even from all of the sugar.

Harry hadn't even budged since James carried him into the cottage the night before. The little light snoring that emitted from him was precious and when he was changed into his pyjamas and placed in bed, he didn't move in the slightest. Renata had found herself quite tired as well, keeping Percy entertained, who just seemed to crave one on one attention. She didn't mind sitting with him as he read her his favourite books or talked about several things. However, by the end of the night, she wasn't even able to make it up the stairs to bed. Instead, she fell asleep on the sofa while James had put Harry to bed.

It seemed long nights of partying in the Gryffindor Tower had prepared James to keep his energy levels going into the late hours of the night. But eventually, after he placed Renata in bed, he settled down and waited until sleep overcame him. And yet, while Renata and Harry had gone to bed long before him, James was the first one up.

He made his way downstairs quietly to allow the two to continue resting and made himself some coffee. He was thinking about bringing up a mug for Renata when he heard slight tapping at the window. Turning his head, James caught sight of Ministry owl, promptly waiting for him to open the window and take his letter. James had to admit, he was rather curious and confused as to who was sending him an owl from the Ministry. And as if he was back in school times again, he started going over all the past events to see if he had done anything wrong recently.

Annoyed that James had taken his sweet time to open the window, as soon as he reached for the letter, the owl dropped it and fluttered off with a screeching sound echoing behind it. James had to snatch the letter in mid-air before it fell, muttering something short of the owl being a "grumpy feathered arse."

The letter itself was addressed not only to him but to Renata as well which really put his mind at work. But rather than just standing there and playing the guessing game, James tore into the envelope and pulled out the papers inside. Within seconds of his eyes glossing over the first few written lines, a smile formed on his face. Grabbing his mug of coffee and making another one, he made his way upstairs to the bedroom.

When he entered, it seemed Renata had moved to his side of the bed, holding one of his pillows in her arms and cuddling it. With a grin, he walked over and placed the mugs down on the nightstand. James sat beside where her head was resting and placed his hand on the top of her head, running his fingers gently through her hair. She stirred a bit, but it wasn't enough to wake Renata completely as she snuggled further into the pillow, burying her face.
