The burning in your lungs was unbearable, stinging your insides, the discomfort clawing it's way up your throat as you pumped your legs faster. Heavy huffs were pushed from your dry lips and you didn't dare look behind you. If you did, you knew what you'd find.
This all started when you were relaxing by the river as the sun set. You didn't stay for long, keeping in mind the time of day and the creatures that would lurk after nightfall. It seemed that some vampires decided to start their hunt earlier before the sky was completely dark because on the way home, two of them in the area caught a whiff of you, thus why you were currently running for your life. You managed to lose them for a short period of time, but they caught up quickly, following your scent with ease.
You made it to the streets, a more public area, where there were a few people around, but that didn't deter the two who followed you persistently. The city had a vampire problem and everyone knew to be on the lookout for them, though it was difficult when they blended in so well and were able to retract their fangs and hide their deep ruby eyes. This time wouldn't be the first time you survived a chase with vampires, in fact, this was the second time this month.
You dared to throw a glance over your shoulder, your heart plummeting to your feet when you saw the pair gaining on you. Running off pure adrenaline, you broke out into a sprint, pushing your body to its limits. You weren't dying tonight.
The soles of your shoes hit the pavement hard with each step as you turned a corner, colliding into somebody before you even saw them. "I-I'm sorry." Your apology was rushed as you tried to step around the man. "Follow me." Was all he said, grabbing hold of your hand and pulling you down the street with him. "What? Wait!" He placed a finger over his lips, silently shushing you while guiding you into a darkened alleyway. "Sorry about this." He apologized in a whisper. "About wha—" He wrapped his arms around your body and pulled you into his chest to keep you hidden and cover your scent as the two vampires chasing you ran past the alley.
You could hear the man holding you inhale softly and it made your body tense up in fear, momentarily concerned that you'd fallen for a trick. "You do smell good." He whispered, the words slipping out of him without much thought. Immediately, you tore yourself away from the man, feeling uneasy about the comment. "You're one of them?" "Yes, but I'm not like them." He quickly defended himself. You eyed him warily, your expression showing distrust, and rightfully so. He took a step away, putting some distance between the both of you so you'd feel a little more at ease. "I'm Min Yoongi." He introduced himself, but it was ignored. "Why did you do that?" You questioned. "Why did you save me?" "I couldn't let them hurt you." His brown eyes roamed your form, searching for any injuries, his gaze softening when he saw your weary expression. "You've been hunted before, haven't you?" You nodded softly. "Second time this month unfortunately. The vampires are lurking earlier than usual." Yoongi's jaw tightened and he ran a hand through his long raven hair. "They're getting bolder." He murmured. "You seem upset." You noted.
