CUT TO:
EXT. CAMP - MORNING
In the camp, everyone is packing up and getting ready to leave for a mission. There are three trucks being loaded with food and supplies. Camdyn Tyler gets off of one of the trucks.
TYLER
Hey, Ember! Why are you just standing there? Wheels up in 10. You comin'?
EMBER
Maybe...
TYLER
Maybe?
EMBER
(sighing)
I just want to be alone. I don't think I'm up for it. Maybe another day I'll go out.
TYLER
(understandingly)
Okay, it's your choice. I respect that.
Tyler hops back on the back of the truck and Blithe approaches Ember.
BLITHE
So...while all of us are going on the mission, you will be here, doing nothing?
Alice interrupts.
ALICE
There is plenty to do here. I would know—I'm here all the time.
EMBER
Blithe, what's the problem if I wanna have some time for myself?
BLITHE
The problem is that you're lazy, unlike the rest of us.
ALICE
What's that supposed to mean? Are you calling me lazy?
EMBER
I'm not lazy.
BLITHE
(louder)
Yeah you are!
Kira gets between Ember and Blithe.
KIRA
Why are you fighting?
EMBER
Just a small issue, Kira.
BLITHE
(shouting)
I'm a small issue, Ember?
Alexander comes running.
ALEXANDER
Stop! Blithe, quit shouting at Ember, there're kids here, you two. Kira, go with Alice to the craft room, please.
KIRA
Okay, Alex.
ALICE
Yeah okay.
Kira and Alice leave the scene.
ALEXANDER
For the love of God, if you two aren't going to stop fighting, then maybe you should both stay.
Both girls are silent.
ALEXANDER
(sternly)
Blithe, go with the rest of the group, you're done here. We gotta go soon.
BLITHE
Why just me, shouldn't Ember come?
ALEXANDER
Not if she doesn't want to. Go with the group, please. Stop throwing a temper tantrum!
Blithe leaves angrily, stomping her feet.
ALEXANDER
Ember, are you okay?
EMBER
Yes, but I want to stay alone just for today.
ALEXANDER
If you want to stay alone, I'm not going to say no.
EMBER
Thank you.
ALEXANDER
You're welcome, just take care of yourself.
EMBER
I will.
Alexander leaves the scene, walking slowly. Ember decides to find Hannah to check in on her.
