"Ai-la-la, Ai-la-la..."
From the shadows where Brünie was tied he heard the tribe singing, tambourines shaking, people cackling in drunken stupor, bells jingling.
Gods, he had to get out of these ropes before daylight or they'd skin his hide! Think, damn you. He kicked at the dust as if it was to blame.
A sliver of light appeared, and a creature more beautiful than the starry sky and the misty mountains together appeared. Féia, the chief's daughter. Without a word she untied his hands.
'Thank you,' he whispered, but she frowned and drove her dagger deep into his stomach.
'Oh.'
