A few weeks had gone by, and I haven't caught a glimpse of Master. I was craving to talk to him. I didn't know what about, but perhaps ask him about his day, and if he has been getting enough sleep. The usual husband and wife conversations. He didn't see it now, but we were so compatible! When that Mantis Demon tried to eat me and grossly make me into its offspring partner, it told a truth that I didn't want to say out loud. That I was starting to care for Master in the way that I wanted to be the one in his heart.

However, I knew that I wasn't good enough to even let him know my true feelings. I was a maid and a weak person who fell prey to demon traps. To show him that I was worthy of his time, I dedicated the days away from him to learn from Gu Yi.

In the library of Bleak Night, I accompanied Gu Yi to find some manuscripts and novels for Master.

"Rong Xin, please bring these books to Sect Leader Yang in his study." Gu Yi passed a pile of heavy books to me. Some manuals written in paper form and some written on bamboo rolls. I carefully held them in my arms, trying my best to balance.

"Ah, okay."

"You remember the way?"

"Yeah. I should be able to find it."

"All right. Come back here after."

"Aw."

I walked off to Master's study. Passed the main hall, Hall of Blue Flames, and into a plainly adorned front courtyard was Master's chambers. Besides his chamber quarters was his study.

Two guards stood on either side of the doors. I struggled walking up the stairs while holding the books still in my arms.

Whispering to one of them, I said, "Can you please open the doors, I don't know how much longer I can carry these."

Not caring about my situation, the one to the right of me answered, "Sect Leader is in a meeting. No one is to intrude."

"But Master asked for these books!"

"Come back later, servant!" The other one scorned.

Hmph!

"Fine."

Kicking the doors open, I quickly made my way in with the two guards calling for me to stop.

"Master! Master! I brought the books you wanted!" Wanting to see Master's face, I used the books as an excuse.

"Sect Leader, we told her not to enter, but she—"

"It's fine," Master told them off, but it looked like he wasn't in a good mood. The smile on my face disappeared, and I placed the books onto Master's desk. A few of the bamboo manuals rolled away from the pile, almost falling to the floor. Grabbing onto each of them, I clumsily organized them on Master's desk. Master patiently waited for me to stop fidgeting.

"Master, who are you meeting with?" I didn't want to leave Master's side yet and tried to prolong my service by asking questions.

Turning around, I saw a man dressed in a black scale armor with a hair bun neatly decorated with black pearls. His eyes suddenly grew large and he drew his sword, pointing it right at my face!

Master moved so fast I didn't even notice when he came to block me from the man's blade. Standing in front of me, Master's height overpowered my view of the situation.

"Wu Jing, what do you think you are doing?"

"Sect Leader, who is this girl? Why is she here?"

"She is the new servant I took in. You're not going to put down your weapon?"

Peeking from behind Master, I saw the man withdrew his sword. His face was still uneasy.

"My apologies, I wasn't thinking. She looks like..."

"Like what?" Master asked.

"Nothing. Let's get back to the reported findings." The man shook his head. He looked like he was not in the right of mind. A bit unstable. I should stay away from him as he might kill me in a state of disorientation.

Master walked back to his desk and sat down gracefully. This time he was wearing a dark blue robe with a tightly fastened top that emphasized his muscular build. The silver metal sewn onto the cloth shined beautifully. He truly dressed the part of a intimidating Sect Leader. Observing the sleeves, I noticed that the thread holding together the pieces had fallen apart. Walking over to Master, I lightly grabbed a piece of his sleeve.

"Master, you have a loose thread here. Let me fix it for you," I said with great concern.

Agitated, Master said, "You may leave."

"But... all right." I decided not to talk back to Master and bowed before I took my leave.

The man, Wu Jing, stared at me the whole exchange I had with Master. His eyes told me he was distrustful.

As I made my way out, I heard Wu Jing said to Master, "Do you still have those dreams?"

"Mmm."

"Did you finally see?"

"No. Her back is always to me."

"Do you think you would ever recognize her? If she was right in front of you?"

"I'm not sure. I don't see the point in remembering her if I'd chosen to forget."

Reaching outside, the two guards closed the doors and Master's conversation with Wu Jing could no longer be heard.

Who is it that they were talking about? A woman in Master's dreams? Does this have any relation to Ming Yan at all?
