Mettaton walked up to May's room to find her with a huge bedhead. Normally, other than a few tiny tangles and lots of flyaways, her hair looked fine when she woke up. Today, it was all haywire! Mettaton tried so hard not to laugh. May began to stir in bed. "Mettaton is that you?" May asked she sat up. Her hair stood up on its end and looked like a lion's mane. "Go look in the mirror," it was getting harder and harder to suppress his laughter. May did so and immediately began brushing it out. That was 3 locks down. Why wasn't the brush going through? "Need any help there?" Mettaton asked. "No I got it," May said with a grunt as she tried to get to brush out of her tangled hair. "Here, let me," Mettaton said as he carefully pulled the comb out. "May your hair!" Mettaton exclaimed as he touched her hair which was dry and poorly cared for. He continued brushing and saw dandruff, lots of dandruff. "Explain yourself, young lady," Mettaton demanded. May considered trying to lie but she knew there was no point. "I can never wash my scalp because it's so hard with all this hair and also it may be a little tiny bit about how often I take a bath," May answered in a rush hoping Mettaton wouldn't hear it in its entirety. She felt him stiffen up and waited to be berated by him. Instead, he asked, "Well, what do you plan to do about this?" May looked at him through the mirror shocked. "Uhh, try to wash my hair better?" Mettaton shook his head. "Try again May," She racked her brain trying to think of a way she could fix this. " You can't possibly be suggesting that I cut..." She couldn't even finish the sentence. Mettaton put his hands on her shoulders, avoiding dandruff. He tried to soften his tone to sound less commanding. He wanted May to make this choice on her own. Her hair meant a lot to her. He knew that if he forced her into this decision, she would hate him forever. "Do you think it's worth having hair this long if you can't take care of it?" May immediately barked back "Of course, it took forever to grow it this long. It actually used to touch the floor, but last time I got it cut, I asked for a slight trim, and the stylist cuts off 2 1/2 feet, which I still haven't grown back by the way, I don't want to undo a year and a half worth of progress," Mettaton just kept brushing out her hair, trying to plan out a well-written response. Think...think...think...Got it! "Well, let's talk about you taking a bath every day." Watching May in the mirror, he could see her start to interrupt him. He held up a hand, May closed her mouth with a "hmph".  He started to brush her hair gently taking his time and making sure to say this as gently as possible. "May I know you are taking these baths so often because you think it helps you keep clean, but your hair is proof that it is actually causing more harm than good," he stopped to see how May would react. She was looking down, her cheeks were red, not pink...red. Mettaton knew she must be really embarrassed and didn't want to embarrass her any more than necessary. In a soft voice, she said "Well what do you want me to do? Never bathe!?" Mettaton didn't even answer and just her a 'don't be stupid' look. May looked down again and finally responded, "Ok ok really, what do you suggest?" Mettaton smiled, glad that she was willing to find a middle ground. "Why don't we start with once a day?" May perked up, seeing the perfect opportunity to negotiate. "Twice a day!" Mettaton didn't even hesitate, knowing she was going to give that a try. "Once a day...trust me...eventually, we'll get you washing 5 times a week." Before May could respond with no doubt a 'no way in h-e- double l hockey sticks' Mettaton patted her on the head said " All done!" in a super cheery voice and scampered off. May yelled after him "Where do you think you're going? We're not done!" Mettaton stuck his head around the corner and responded: "To make you breakfast!" He knew she wouldn't argue with that.
