Chapter 83

"(Name)!"

Sasuke shouts as he barges into your room, but his face falls when he realizes you aren't there.

He clenches his fist in anger, breaths shallow as he races to the next door in the hallway.

"(Name)!!"

Now it's yuri, frantically calling out to you as she hopefully opens the empty room's door. But of course, you're not inside. The siblings continue their search, unwilling to accept the fact that (name) is gone.

Meanwhile, sasuke keeps running in the hallway.

"Damn it! Damn it! Just where are you, (name)?!"

"Sasuke!"

Sasuke's search is stopped by a familiar male's voice.

That's...

"Dad!"

Fugaku looms in the hallway right in front of sasuke. Itachi has told him everything that happened since last night, and now he has come to stop his son. He wants sasuke to be happy, but anyone can see that he can't win this fight - if only his son hadn't gotten his hopes up.

"That's enough. There's nothing else we can do."

Although fugaku maintains his stern demeanor, his eyes are laced with sympathy.

Sasuke's eyes widen in shock after he hears those words from his very own father, the one who advocated for him in front of madara, telling him to give up.

"You're wrong, dad! There is something we can still do. If we find (name), then... Then.. We can stop this! We-"

"That's enough, sasuke!"

The boy is silenced by his father's reprimand.

"I understand how you feel, but, we're out of time. The meeting starts in 10 minutes. Everyone else is in the main gathering hall already. They're waiting for us and madara to arrive."

Sasuke is speechless.

There's no way this is happening.

Fugaku takes a few steps closer to him, and puts his hand on his son's shoulder.

"Good job, sasuke, for fighting until the end. But that's enough now. Let's go to the hall together. Your mother is waiting."

Sasuke feels too helpless, his feet tethered to the ground as his frigid facade crumbles to reveal a despondent expression on his face.

Understanding the situation of his son, fugaku just grabs his hand and pulls him towards the hall.

It's over. There's nothing else they can do.

If only he was there to protect you...

Sasuke doesn't even notice they have finally arrived at the gathering hall. His eyes first fall on yuri, eyes brimming with tears. Itachi and shisui stand directly behind her, carefully observing sasuke's expression. All the other uchiha members are also there.

This is not a meeting with the main family only. This is a meeting involving all uchiha members with each household sending one representative to attend.

Fugaku makes his way to sit at the very front, right beside the leader's empty seat and sasuke just rests himself on a seat beside yuri.

He is so disheartened now that he can't even speak, let alone form cohesive thoughts.

"Sasuke-kun. I know this is not the time, but i received a text from neji-kun."

Sasuke takes a glance at his sister.
