My Beast

Moonlight-drunk creature

so beautifully strange

your body is empty-

but your heart full of pain,

it twists and coils, up around your throat

you howl and you scream but you know you're alone

so that's when you drank

some bitter black rain;

one starry cloudless night,

it coursed through your veins

and carved out your fright

it dripped and it coated

your throat full o' red

it roared through your body

and it went to your head.

And I'll never forget

that sad rainy day,

when I saw

that beautiful creature

fall.
