"Casimir! You are the crown prince of this empire! It's just acting as a tour guide. I'm sure Adira wouldn't mind."

Although the king's words were a cause to be upset, Casimir strangely didn't react to it and instead smiled.

"But she might. Father, you know how scary women are when they get jealous. I remember Mother used to give you hell, right?"

Now, Casimir's mother, the late Empress of the empire, used to be the queen of the Fairies. Their race were as secretive as they come and almost no one knew they existed.

His mother, Caelia, was a beauty above mere mortals even when she disguised herself as one. She was a first class beauty that no one could match even within her race of rare beauties such as fairies, elves and etc. And she hated humans above all else because of their cruelty and viciousness and well, human traits.

And yet, she fell in love with one. A bastard as she calls him.

Casimir resembled Caelia the most. He would most probably be what Caelia would look like had she been a man.

But Caelia didn't have silver locks. Oh no. She had the most beautiful, silky and envy-worthy white golden locks that fell on her back like waterfalls.

She was a cold icy beauty that captivated every man who laid eyes on her. But, Casimir could only remember her motherly warmth that used to embrace and sing to him at night.

"Yes. Your mother was indeed fierce and as bitter as the blizzard that paints the empire white." There was a small smile on Anastasius' aged face as he reminisced the times his wife would blow like an angry volcano whenever she was jealous.

That anger was more mesmerizing than it was scary. But, of course, it was a hell lot scary.

It was another story Casimir will yet to tell.

"Adira will understand, my son. I'll talk to her."

"No, Father. I'll be the one to tell my wife." He shamelessly claimed her as his with a very proud smile and bowed slightly as he excused himself.

It's just being a tour guide. What can go wrong, right?

...

"A princess' escort? Are you kidding me? You think I'll just go ahead and say okay? I'm not a saint Casimir!" Adira angrily cried and stood indignantly while pacing around the room.

Heise, who watched the vexation his father caused his mother, also angrily growled at him. Well, for better or for worse, he was always on his mother's side.

And one who angers his mother can only be an enemy in his eyes. No matter who it is.

"Adira, I'm only showing her around. You can also come if you want."

"And what? Show to everyone how I don't trust my prince and must monitor him twenty four-seven? Casey, that princess is beautiful."

"And you are more."

"And she's a princess."

"Yes, and you are mine."

"Casey, what if she falls for you and you to her? What about me?"

Casimir wanted nothing but Adira's heart. All his life, it was the only thing he wanted and he isn't as stupid as to exchange it for something that doesn't mean much to him.

I mean, why would he let go of something he spent every ounce of his effort, patience, time and schemes just to tie her to him?

He took her into his embrace and planted a kiss on her head. They stayed like that, silently, until Casimir felt Adira relax in his arms and wrapped her arms around him in return.

Why would I exchange this for something else? I have the most perfect and the only woman I want in my arms. Why would I look for more when I have the best?

"I'm a little lazy climbing out of this hole I created when I fell for you. So, I think I'll pass on that thought."

Adira's rising temperature finally settled down as her hold on Casimir tightened. She felt very threatened for the first time and she was panicking so much. This news came too suddenly it practically fell like a bomb.

However, her fear wasn't just baseless jealousy, you know?

Because from her past life, this particular princess actually came as close as being the one who actually got engaged to the first prince of the empire.

The first princess of the Alynthi Kingdom, northward of the Versaillus Empire, Thea Rosalva Beira Alynthi widely known as the Winter's Rose, was a very beautiful and kind princess.

The kind you would usually automatically categorize as the heroine of the story.

Their kingdom, although experiencing winter almost all year round, was very prosperous and strong despite the unfavorable climate.

Adira wasn't exactly sure when it happened, but this princess fell for the first prince, Prince Casimir, and they got engaged.

It was actually circulated around and although Adira could care less, it eventually reached her ears.

It was also rumored that this princess originally came as a tribute to the empire and a means for her kingdom to further solidify their power through marriage. And the prince, also known to be uncaring and unmoving, didn't bother arguing nor rejecting the proposal.

He let them decide his fate.

His coldness was what captured this princess and she pursued him fervently. Until eventually, they got engaged.

And everything started when the first prince agreed to be the princess' escort.

She really is coming, huh? I admit I've been secretly hoping that she wouldn't since Casimir's bethroted was agreed to be me and so they will not entertain further talks of marriage with another kingdom.

Can I even beat this Winter's Rose in terms of beauty? Or gracefulness? Do I have to marry Casey right now so he doesn't get stolen from me? Should I?

"Adira? What are you thinking?" Casimir snapped her out of her ridiculous thoughts as soon as he noticed the frown forming on her pretty little face and she whined while nuzzling against Casimir's embrace.

"Casey's gonna be stolen by some pretty princess and here I am practically offering him to her! I'm dying, okay? Gosh!"

"Why are you threatened by some nameless princess?"

"Cause she's pretty Casimir! I'm sure of it! She's as pretty as those untouchable lilies at the edges of the cliff where no one could taint them!"

"But I love the lilies that seem poisonous yet still brightly glows and blooms with the summer sun."

"Then if I tell you to marry me right here, right now, would you?"

"With all due pleasure, my Lady." Casimir broke out into a grin after hearing Adira's suggestion born out of panic and invidousness.

It was weird but Casimir felt she was still beautiful even when she's practically seconds away from incinerating everything within her line of sight.

Is that normal?

Casimir's mother's name is pronounced as Kay-Lee-Ah. Just to have a uniform pronounciation! 😉
