History

It had been weeks since the bell test, weeks since you had to explain to Naruto that he was the only genin in your class. Well he and Sasuke, but you knew better than to bring that up then and there. But there you laid in Kakashi's bed, he was snoring, which was rare but it always kept you up. You had been in that house countless times, and countless times you've never explored. You never looked at the pictures, you never did anything that would make Kakashi less of a stranger to you.

You sat up slowly, trying your best not to wake the sleeping shinobi. You grabbed the few picture frames he had on the window seal behind his bed and scurried out of the room and into the kitchen. You tiptoed, actually. Kakashi's house was what he called traditional, which just meant the floors creaked a lot and you had to be mindful of where you stepped. After what felt like countless hours of stalking down the long wooden hallway you finally made it to your destination.

You switched the light above the dining room table on and took a seat. You let out a deep sigh, placing the four picture frames on the table. The first one you looked at was recent, it was the updated portrait of Team 7, the picture the five of you took when you joined the team. Kakashi hovered over his four students, his left hand rested on your shoulder, his right on Sakura's. Sasuke and Naruto stood in the middle, back then you could've sworn they were rivals through and through. You caressed the frame of the photo softly before you placed it back onto the table.

The next picture you grabbed was of the original Team 7. You didn't think much of it so you moved on to the next one. You paused for a moment and frowned. You could tell the next photo hadn't been touched in forever. It was coated in a thick layer of dust. "That's disgusting." You whispered to yourself. You took a deep breath then blew as much dust as you could, the rest you wiped away with your hand. The first thing you noticed was a young Kakashi. Small and grumpy-looking, you giggled to yourself.

"So cute...", you wiped again. This time you revealed a girl, brown hair, brown eyes, purple makeup. She looked like Sakura with a basic color palette. You continued to clean off the glass. A boy, undoubtedly an Uchiha, had the trademark black hair and black eyes. "What kind of Uchiha wears goggles?" you murmured.

You took one last wipe. "Naruto?" you questioned. You knew it wasn't Naruto but the Jonin in the photo looked like a clone of him. You'd never seen any of these people before.

Could Kakashi be the last one from his team still alive?

The thought lingered in your head a few more moments as you glanced over the picture again. You couldn't help but see the parallels between this one and the picture of the original Team 7. You gave another small smile as you placed the photo between the ones of Team 7.

Your eyes instantly went to the last picture frame. It was even dustier than the last one. You reached out for it and brought it towards you.

"(Y/N)..."

The deep voice made you jump, causing you to drop the frame back onto the table. You turned to see the silhouette of Kakashi standing at the end of the hallway. He stepped closer, the light illuminating his toned body, and as he got closer, his handsome face.

"Kakashi, what are you doing up?"

He let out a big yawn before he began to walk towards you, "I could ask you the same thing." He stopped right behind your chair, his hands rested on your shoulder as he peered over you. "I see you've been going through my things."

You started to nervously scratch the back of your neck. "I'm sorry. I just got curious. You never talk about-"

Kakashi leaned over and gave you a kiss on the forehead. His hands started to give your shoulders a light massage. "You could've just asked." He gave your forehead another kiss before he pulled a chair up beside you.

You couldn't help but grin as he got comfortable in his chair. "It's only four in the morning after all. What do you want to know about, baby?"

You smiled at your nickname, he had started using it recently but you didn't mind. Eagerly, you grabbed the picture of young Kakashi and his team and handed it over. "Tell me about them."

He took the picture in his hand. For a second, you could see nostalgia in his eyes and a smile on his face. Then it was quickly replaced with a look of sorrow. Kakashi sighed, "This is Team Minato, the team I was assigned to after graduating from the academy." He scooted in closer to you so you could see better. "Minato Namikaze, Obito Uchiha, and..." His voice trailed off as he pointed at the girl in the center of the photo. His grip on the frame seemed to tighten as if he were frustrated with himself. "Rin Nohara." He finally muttered. There was a moment of silence before he continued, "They were all I had when I was younger. They were my family... and I failed each and every one of them." Kakashi's voice was a little shaky but he quickly cleared his throat.

You frowned, you didn't even know Kakashi was capable of being so vulnerable, he always seemed to be content with everything. Without thought, you placed your hand on his bare back and rest your head on his shoulder. "Kakashi, you don't need to talk about it if you don't want to."

He shook his head, "I couldn't protect her." He paused, putting the frame down on the table. "And I couldn't save him." Another sigh escaped his lips, "That's why I'll do everything in my power to protect you." He turned to face you, placing a soft kiss on your forehead. "I can't afford to lose anyone else." Kakashi caressed your cheek, "You're all I have, (Y/N). I love you."

Your heart leaped, "I love you too Kakashi." You gave him a soft smile and he gave you one in return. You felt your cheeks grow hot as Kakashi's hand took a gentle hold on your chin, slowly guiding your lips to his. No matter how many times you've kissed him it still felt brand new. You always blushed, your breathing always got more rapid, you always got nervous about what was gonna happen next. As the kiss got deeper Kakashi's free hand wrapped around your waist and pulled you closer to him. He tugged until you were in his lap, straddling him. Your lips didn't disconnect once as you got comfortable in your new seat, your hands rested on Kakashi's muscular chest. His hands were much more active, they moved from your waist to your butt, giving it a light squeeze. A little moan escaped your throat.

You broke your kiss, gasping for air, causing Kakashi to smirk down at you. "Sorry I couldn't help myself. I didn't think you woul- I mean you always stop at a kiss." You stammered nervously, you face felt as hot as the sun.

Kakashi cocked an eyebrow at you, "Were you not ready?" He was teasing you.

"You always tell me to wait until I'm 18. I'm not 18 yet, Sensei. I think you're just getting restless." Kakashi didn't say a thing, his black eyes just looked you up and down, a grin plastered on his face. "Whatever pervert, I'm going back to bed." You climbed out of his lap.

"Good.", he sighed rising to his feet. He took a hold of your hand. "I'm exhausted anyways." Kakashi turned off the light above the kitchen table, then led you down the long dark hallway and back into his bedroom.

The two of you climbed into bed and got comfortable. You rested your head on Kakashi's chest, listening to his heart beat as he started to drift back to sleep. "Kakashi?" you spoke softly, just in case he had already fallen back asleep. The shinobi let out a grunt in response. "Your Sensei, what happened to him?"

His breathing stopped for a second. "He died, protecting the village from the fox demon." You glanced up at Kakashi, the parts of his face that was illuminated by the moonlight seemed unphased by your question, but it sounded like it bothered him.

"He looks a lot like Naruto."

You saw his black eyes quickly, shift to look at you. "You should get some rest, (Y/N)."
