I walked down the busy sidewalk clutching my resume tightly in my hands. I always took copies with me to interviews, even though they had already seen it. I think I took it more for me to remember the bullshit I put in there rather than to impress the interviewer.

I had never been so nervous for an interview in my life like I was today. I had been a PA for the last 6 years but usually I was a PA for CEOs of large corporations or a temporary PA to Film Directors on set, once I was a P.A for a few weeks for a touring artist, who was huge in the industry. That, was certainly interesting.

Today was an interview for a full time Personal Assistant role to a singer. A singer whose identity was kept more secret than Arnold Schwarzenegger's love child.

I didn't know who the artists was and I wouldn't unless I was offered the job. The P.A game became more confidential the more high profile the client.

I had been referred from my agency to the employers management who had interviewed me on the first round. Today was the second interview with a member of the artists team to see if I was suitable to go to the next round. The third interview would be with the artist themselves. Who would tell me at that time if I got the job or not.

That would be brutal.

Being rejected, but also being told the reasons why to my face?

Sounds like a really shit breakup with someone you never even had a relationship with.

I hope it wasn't an artist I was a fan of.

That would be awkward.

There was nothing within the job description that gave me any clues as to who it could possibly be, so to say I was clueless was an understatement, which made the preparation for this interview near impossible. Looks like I would just have to rely on my charm and experience.

I already knew the unspoken rules of this career.

Rule number 1 is confidentially.

No name dropping no matter the setting or how appropriate it may seem. It is never appropriate.

Rule 2 be discrete.
Nobody wants a loud mouth P.A everyone wants someone who is subtle, approachable but can get the job done.

Rule 3 always be available.
This was probably just as important as rule 1. My role as PA. is to be available at all times to carry out any task given to me by the boss. From booking urgent flights at 3 am to picking up their non fat mocha grande latte at 7:15 am from Starbucks to cancelling their dinner with their wife so that they could fuck their side chick.

It was a varied job.

I had always enjoyed it and bar one employer, I had always enjoyed who I worked with. The one employer who was hell to work with kept trying to get in my pants, which was not in my job description, which I had to politely remind them off every day.

I was outside the cafe where the second interview would take place. I patted down my clothes before entering, hopefully I look presentable. I looked around I had no idea who I was meeting, I was just told their name was Sinuhe and I really hoped I was going to pronounce it correctly. I had google translated it so many times last night and played it back to try and get the pronunciation correct.

I approach one table with girl in her 30s there and asked if she was Sinuhe she gave me a strange look and shook her head no.

"Oh over here! I'm Sinuhe" I heard the voice and looked over to see a woman in her early 50s wearing glasses but had a kind smile.

I looked up and gave a grateful smile, I thought I would be approaching everyone in this place until I found them.

I walked over and Sinuhe stood up, I put my hand out. "Hello, I'm Y/N Y/L/N nice to meet you".
