Leon picked Adira up in a princess carry and ran out of the palace through an exit he made at the garden beforehand, when he was still conflicted with himself and was wallowing in anguish when that imbecile mistakenly poisoned Adira.

He facilitated his escape with her safely locked in his arms as his mind wandered back to all those years ago when this woman lying vulnerably and weakly in his arms first found him. Their situation then was the exact opposite of them right now.

...

Adira walked along the garden while watching the hurrying knights of her household in obvious confusion. There was so much unrest that she wondered if they were attacked or something.

And why does this scene seem too familiar?

While silently keeping to herself and strolling around, Adira passed by a bush that suddenly rustled. She stopped and turned to it, expecting an animal when she swiped the leaves away only to be greeted by golden hued orbs staring back at her.

There was an intense glare in this little boy's beautiful eyes as he bared his fangs at her-like a cornered frightened animal.

They were just staring at each other, wordlessly, till sounds of clanging armor grew louder and louder that Adira had to push him deeper inside the bush.

Adira then promptly turned around when the knights reached her.

"Little lady! What are you doing here? It is not safe to be out right now. Please, head back inside."

"Why? What's wrong?" She cocked her little head to the side and everyone were immediately worshipping her.

"It is nothing for you to concern yourself, little lady! It is but only a street rat that wandered in. We aren't sure if it is hostile or not so it is not safe yet. It might bite you, our little lady. And we'd rather die before that happens."

Adira hummed in reply before nodding her head in understanding and she smiled brightly at these old and young men.

"Mm. Adira understands! I will head back inside once I find what I'm looking for. You can all go back to what you're doing now."

The knights continued to adore this little angel's smile before their captain knocked each of them on their heads to make them move forward.

"Move on, you idiots! How dare you bother the little lady! Go! Patrol!" He barked at them before the poor knights grumbled and reluctantly proceeded with their jobs.

They had begged the Duke Sylveris countless times-every chance or opportunity that shows up-to assign them as their little lady's knights only to be shot down every single time.

They once wondered why. Wasn't it important to have at least one knight by the lady's side to protect her at all times?

But the Duke would only answer them that there was no need. With his answer they inferred that the lady doesn't need it since she was basically kept inside the castle walls all the time.

So she doesn't need one knight monopolizing her, she had an entire army ready to lay down their lives for her.

While the captain, who watched his retreating subordinates, turned to Adira, his face immediately turning softer, and secretly handed her a pouch of snacks.

"Please play inside, little lady. Those guys are easily distracted when they see you." He coaxed her gently and Adira, having a mature mind, quickly understood before bobbing her head and smiled sweetly.

The captain was gushing like a mindless puppy at her before feeling the sharp and betrayed glares directed at him. He turned around to find the men he drove away murdering him countless of times inside their bitter heads.

He cleared his throat, corrected his posture and regained his strict face before finally leaving Adira alone.

After making sure that those knights were already gone and no one was around, Adira finally breathed a sigh of relief. She turned again to the boy she stuffed inside the bushes and helped him up.

He was still wearing his fiery and dark glare but Adira didn't mind it. Instead, she took his hands and surreptitiously crept inside and towards her room.

She slammed her door shut after she pushed the boy inside.

"What are you doing?" He finally spoke.

"What does it look like to you?" Adira asked him back with the same coldness he displayed to her.

But the boy only remained silent and glared at her. Feeling that it won't end with them glaring at each other like this, Adira sighed in defeat.

"Would you have rather I handed you over to them? I don't know what they'll do to you but I do know it won't be pretty.

I can't just leave a boy like you alone in that situation, can I? Especially since the household you just trespassed happened to be a Duke's."

The boy looked her up and down before blurting out, "You're only a girl and I think much younger than me."

"So?"

"You ought to be calling me big brother or something and not boy."

Really? You're complaining about that?

"Look, it doesn't really matter whether I call you big brother or whatever, but what were you doing? Why did you trespass a Duke's house?"

Adira demanded answers from this angry boy that couldn't stop glaring at her.

If you weren't cute, I wouldn't have covered for you.

"I.. ran away." He answered after a brief pause and his countenance turned darker than it already is.

There was immense hatred in his eyes that Adira could only wonder what happened to a boy as young as him to have eyes like those-the eyes of a killer. She should know. After all, she did slaughter a capital city from her past life.

"Who are you planning to kill?" Adira asked without warning and completely off topic. She didn't like those eyes. She didn't want him falling into a path very much like her own destruction route.

If she could, she wanted to save this poor boy.

"No one."

"You can't lie to me. I saved your life just now. I demand honesty from you at least."
