pride

A five letter words that tells a story,
Of a people's fight and their glory.
You won't find it in the history books,
No matter how far and wide you search and look.

They were brave and courageous,
And they made an impact through the ages.
With flags of rainbow colours held high,
They fought for love and some even died.

Love is love is the only message we proclaim,
So those like us don't have to feel ashamed.
We bleed the same blood as the rest of you,
Who we are doesn't make it any less true.

In this month we come to celebrate,
The fact that we are anything but straight.
And in this month we come to show,
That despite hateful words our pride grows.

You claim to listen to God's word from your pew,
Yet forget he says "Love each other the way I love you"
So each June we will display our pride,
So one less person has to hide.

A five letter words that tells a story,
Of a people's fight and their glory.
No matter how you choose to identify,
Don't forget to keep your head held high.
