Professor, I was wondering if you could tell us about the Chamber of Secrets?" Hermione asked. We were in transfiguration, and I'm pretty sure the Professor was trying to avoid the subject.

Knowing Hermione wasn't going to back down, she sighed, "Very well. You all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age; Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Three of the founders co-existed quite harmoniously. One did not."

"Three guesses who" Ron muttered to Harry. I reached over and hit him upside the head. He flinched and shot a glare at me.

"Salazar Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. In other words, purebloods. Unable to sway the others, he decided to leave the school." McGonagall continued

"What about the chamber?" I asked.

"I'm getting there, child," She said. I shut her my mouth, waiting, "According to legend, Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in this castle, known as the Chamber of Secrets. Shortly before departing, he sealed it until that time when his own true heir returned to the school. The heir alone would be able to open the Chamber of Secrets and unleash the horror within, and by so doing, purge the school of all those who, in Slytherin's view, were unworthy to study magic..."

"Muggleborns," Hermione realized.

The Professor nodded grimly, "Yes. Naturally, the school has been searched many times for such a chamber. It has never been found."

"Professor, what exactly does legend tell us lies within the Chamber?" Hermione asked

"The Chamber is said to be home to something which the heir of Slytherin alone can control. It is said to be home... to a monster."

"Well, while you boys are finishing up this idiotic prank, I'm going to head to bed. Goodnight" I called out to the twins as I walked out of Snape's classroom. His class was the easiest to prank. His living quarters were far away from the room, and it's not like he had an office...

I walked out and started walking back to the dorm.

"Are you and the twins setting another prank?" I looked behind me and saw Lady Ferdinand, a very friendly ghost.

"Hey Lady Ferdinand, and yes, the boys are just finishing up. You won't tell anyone, will you?"

"Of course not, dear, but I do want you to come by my painting some time. It's dreadfully boring talking to the oil version of myself."

"Deal. I'll be there tomorrow after class" She smiled and floated off. I watched her leave and then I heard a hissing sound. I tensed, and it started growing louder and louder. I heard a thud. I saw a hand fall into the hallway I was in and gasped. There was silence before the hissing started again.

Whatever this was, it was getting closer, and if it just killed someone, it wouldn't hesitate to kill me either.

I looked around and saw a door. I quickly locked myself in the room. I tried to slow down my heart rate and with that, my breathing. I felt something bang against the door, and I shut my eyes. There were a few softer bangs and then it grew quiet. I slid down the wall and let out a dry sob.

It killed someone... no, maybe it just petrified it, like it did Mrs. Norris. I slowly opened the door and made sure the coast was clear before booking it to the dorms. I jumped into bed and threw the blanket over me. I grabbed onto my pillow tightly, hoping I wouldn't have any nightmares.
