She stole my heart
Summers were filled
with endless sleep over's.
Her home became mine
and mine became hers.
This is why I smile
We sat in her dark room,
pillows and blankets engulfed the floor.
The Vampire Diaries filled the pixelated screen.
TV and corner store candy
was the best fix for any hot summer day.
Wrappers hid in-between folds of fabric.
The taste of Rollo chocolate
lingered on the roof of my mouth
and her occasional sip from
a half finished slurry interrupted lines of dialog.
But, it was ok
as I didn't find peace
within the scenes of the show
that decided to overrun
reality for a little bit.
I found peace within
the comfort of being near her.
It's been awhile
Cold air nipped my noise
as I finished lacing the worn out rental skates.
After the last knot was tied I wimbled over to her.
Blades cut into the floor
and then we stepped onto ice.
We stayed there until fingers were numb,
pants were wet from falling on the ice
one too many times and chest hurts
from laughing too hard.
And everything feels right
