song: Lisa O'Neill - Pothole In The Sky

I squeezed my trigger one last time on the last Hyperion guy that was still standing. He seemed pretty desperate when he came running towards us at full speed, but he didn't make it far before both Mordecai and I put a bullet in his head. I looked over at him with a big grin on my face and held my hand up for a high five. Mordecai shook his head with a quiet chuckle and gave me the well-deserved high five.

"Looks like I'm gonna be making my way back to Sanctuary pretty soon to deliver some new supplies, huh?" I said as we approached the cars that they had been using in their convoy. They looked like they'd have more medical supplies in them than food in them, but maybe Mordecai would be able to find some good information on some data pads. I hoped to be able to get back to Sanctuary soon. I was getting really worried about Lilith, the more I thought about it.

I took a look at the stuff in the first car, but there wasn't much in it, except for very few medical supplies and a bunch of data chips. Mordecai quickly took the data chips and stuffed them in his backpack.

"You think there'd be anything useful on them?" I asked. Mordecai shrugged.

"Sometimes there is. Most of the good information is what I get from informants, though. Those guys seemed to be headed towards the train tracks, though, and they might have some information on when they'll transport that Vault Key." he mumbled.

"Wait a minute there. What Vault Key? And why is Hyperion transporting it?"

"Ah, right. One of my informants told me of the Vault Key that Hyperion has and that they'll be transporting it soon. He had no idea when, though. We might have the answer on one of those chips. I've told Roland, but then he got taken and things went sort of crazy, so yeah." he answered.

"Huh." was all I could say to that. Mordecai suddenly stopped and grabbed my arm, so I would stop, as well.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Saw some movement back in the last car." he said and looked through his scope. I had my hand on my gun and was watching him. I found it really fascinating lately to just watch Mordecai closely, seeing all the little details in his facial expressions, his own kind of weird way of moving, how he handled the huge sniper rifles.

"There's two of them, they haven't seen us yet, both with shotguns, so they won't be able to hit us from back there." he said. I saw his muscles tensing and his finger slowly closing around the trigger.

I squinted at the car he had pointed his rifle at and saw the two engineers looking around carefully and getting up slowly to get a better view. That's when I heard the shot from Mordecai's rifle and I saw the bullet hitting both of them at once. Mordecai started chuckling quietly to himself in his deep, hoarse voice.

"Shit, man, you're really fucking hot when you do that." I said, looking back at him.

"When I do what?"

"When you do your scouting thing and your sniping thing and the little chuckle... just, damn." I replied. Mordecai turned around, giving me a confused look.
