genesis jones felt crushed.

absolutely crushed.

sadie sink, her girlfriend of three months, two weeks and six days was sitting in front of her, telling her that she had to move to atlanta for a new job. an acting job.

"i don't have to go, though. they could totally hire someone else."

something in sadie's voice alerted gen. she could hear that if gen asked her to stay, she would without a second thought. but she also listened to sadie's words.

the show could be huge. sadie would finally get her big break she always wanted. gen knew she couldn't hold her back from that.

but gen also knew she couldn't do long distance. she wouldn't be able to be far away. then if the show blew up, the distance would get worse. sadie would be traveling and gen was never good with that. gen also knew that she couldn't move to atlanta. she didn't have enough money herself, her parents paying for her apartment.

sadie looked her straight into the eyes, and gen could feel the pain radiating off them. sadie wanted this, but she needed gen.

"say the word, and i'll tell them no."

gen sighed, from the beginning she knew her answer.

she knew sadie knew she couldn't do long distance. she knew that if she left it would be the end of them.

"i-" gen started. sadie took in a breath, hoping she would tell her to stay.

"i cant."

sadie could hear the pain in her voice. she wanted so badly to tell her it was okay, that she was never leaving her. but she couldn't, because sadie was moving to atlanta.

"so, that's the end?" sadie's voice cracked, and soon both of them had tears welling up. "the end of us?"

"i guess so." gen tried so hard. so hard to not break down in front of the woman she loved.

"well," sadie choked up, looking down. "i guess i better get going."

gen looked down as well, not being able to look her in the eyes. she knew if she took one more look, she'd break. she'd tell sadie to stay, tell her that she loved her more than anything and beg her to stay.

she just couldn't.

sadie looked at the girl one last time. she couldn't help but pull her into her arms.

both were in so much pain. it pained them even more to see the other in pain. gen cried into sadie's shoulder, as sadie did into gen's.

sadie gently pulled herself out of gen's arms, wanting to see gen one last time. sadie tried to get one last look, just to memorize her face. gen never looked up.

she hoped that maybe, just maybe she would look up if she said something she hadn't before.

"i'll always love you, genesis jones."

so sadie slowly stood up, hoping that maybe gen would grab her and tell her to stay. just anything. any sign.

any reason for sadie to stay.

nothing.

so sadie collected her jacket, took one last look at gen's curled up figure, who refused to look back. sadie stepped out into the night, feeling more lonely than ever.

as soon as the door shut, gen broke down.

the love of her life just walked out the door and she couldn't bring herself to stop her.

-

sadie sink was not okay.

the whole walk home she couldn't stop the tears from running down her face. they didn't stop, but neither did she.

her mind was racing.

do i go back?

why didn't i stay?

i should go back.

okay, i'm going back.

but she never did.

one thought stopped her from turning around. from turning around and marching right back to her apartment. from storming back in and kissing the girl she loved with everything she had in her.

she didn't ask me to stay.

that thought kept sadie going.

going, going, going, all the way until she stood in front of her apartment. she could barely unlock the door, hands shaking.

as soon as she fell into bed, she couldn't help but pull her phone out.

she stared at the contact, it staring right back at her. it was genesis's contact, her thumb hovering over the call button.

sadie felt more tears come, and she couldn't hold back.

she let out an ear piercing scream, one of pain and anguish. she threw her phone across the room, not caring if it broke or not. she cried, cried, cried, until she felt nothing.

after sadie was calm, she picked her phone back up. it was cracked, but sadie couldn't bring herself to care.

she called the only person who she thought could make her feel any better.

"hello?"

"millie,"

-

gen felt broken.

she still couldn't look up.

she felt as if she did, sadie would be standing there, waiting for her to say something. wanting her to say something.

her dog nudged her, and gen completely fell apart. she felt incomplete.

she trudged to her phone, still crying.

"hello?"

"hey charlie."
