Drew

"Do you really think, Miss Winters, that if something was actually going on that the child would still be with their mother?"

"We're in this courtroom today, aren't we?" Emma stated and a few people clapped.

"SILENCE!" The judge proclaimed.

"Thank you, your honour." Emma walked up again to continue her statement.

"As I was saying." She widened her eyes to the other lawyer and wiped her head around, her hair in a ponytail following.

I couldn't help but smile and shake my head.

Queen of sass.

"We've done this child an injustice as a justice system and as a community. Your honour, not through my own experience, I know that children like this boy are in need of help."

She looked into my eyes omniscient as ever. I smiled warmly and mouthed "I love you."

She mouthed it back quickly before continuing. "This child has cuts, bruises and scars. More than a normal 8-year-old should have may I add."

The jury nodded as pictures of the boys injuries were presented... It reminded me of Robert and Lisa.

This is why I love her. Well, there are many reasons but, she stands up for her beliefs. She believes in everyone.

Even me.

Emma

I stood by the water cooler and drummed my nails on the plastic.

"So, Winters."
The other lawyer approached me and leaned against the wall.

"Carlton." I looked down as I took a sip from my paper cup.

"Not looking good for you, is it?"

"We pull it out of the dirt. We always do." I stated.

He got really close to me and glared down. "You've gained yourself a little reputation missy. Just quit while you're ahead."

"Never." I glared back.

"I'm not sure, correct me if I'm wrong, but if this young woman had a personal bubble right now..." I looked over his shoulder and saw Drew approaching.

"It would be, well, squashed." He bit into an apple.

"Don't put your nose into places where it doesn't belong sonny."

Drew laughed and said "It does. Because this young lady here happens to be my wife."

He didn't!

He did!

I blushed and smiled, showing Carlton the ring.

"So, how about we step away from my girl and lay off? Hm?" He raised a brow.

He gave me one last look before walking away in a huff.

I grinned and bit my lip gently"Wife?" I said.

"One, I wanted to see how it felt, and two, I thought he would listen more. I was right." He smiled as he leaned against the wall.

I pulled him closer into the corner and he placed his arms about my waist. "The only person I want squashing my personal bubble." I kissed his lip quickly and gently before hugging him.
