CHAPTER NINETEEN: An Invite Written in Truth

I was rightfully concerned. Studying William Myers' background, he wasn't exactly squeaky clean and neither is his accounting agency popular in the market. Maximus is a respectable man, he has his downfalls, he does have his protective, or rather a possessive quality that I see William has for Annalisa. It is unmistakable, but again, that is not the problem. I thank Jenny for the message she sent me yesterday...my birthday. The same day I lost the two people who meant the most to me. It's why my own friends haven't remembered the day I use to celebrate with balloons at kindergarten. The best way to appear normal, when behind it all, my party use to be that of grand Balls too.

I didn't celebrate it anymore.

I didn't think about it anymore.

I definitely didn't want to. I had enough on my plate with Maximus' family being mixed up in this too.

What is the problem is William Myers' relations to Celestial? He had close relations with my Father, but business-wise, I didn't have nearly enough information when trying to locate using progressively complicated keywords through my family's old drives. Nothing beyond a few transactions is what was discussed, is what was made through transactions between both parties, mainly my Father giving him loans. Out of curtesy, perhaps. William's business has been struggling for a while.

It runs across my mind, even now as I sit at the Royals table, with Maximus staring at me intently, waiting for an answer.

Our eyes meet, I hold the juice in my glass in my right hand and my left hand delicately holds the side of my jaw. I raise an eyebrow as we all wait for him to speak. His violet irises darken at my silent challenge, the prick has our attention but would rather shower in it for a moment longer, waiting as our eagerness grows. Like a predator looking for a decent show, entertainment is all anyone is looking for nowadays. That's where he sadly draws the line for me, he looks like his father, at this very moment.

I sigh before disconnecting the eye contact, they're all mused, I'm just plain bored. I had not relied many fancy invitational cards had been passed down the table to us, Carter just lays mine next to me.

"We were wondering if you all wanted to be invited to our one and only birthday boy, Maximus Myers', annual Ball?" I accidentally choke a little on my drink. Ivan's voice shows his sheer amusement as he proudly introduces this weekend's events that involves us to be a plus one.

I hadn't even realised it was Maximus' birthday. Carter rubs my back a little, trying to hide his smile when I slap him on the arm, coughing a little.

"You alright over there, Parker." Maximus pulls off ultimate arrogance like the King he annoyingly is, he pulls it off too well, in fact.

"Quite alright, thank you for your concern and for the invitation..." I say, curiously whilst looking over at an excited looking Diana and Rosa-belle, Trevor smiles at Diana's behaviour and Andrew just gazes at Rosa-belle like a man drunk on love. It's ridiculously unhealthy.
