Riley's POV
As I stood there, dumbfounded by what I had just seen unfold before me, I then begin to feel my chest tighten... Great. Perfect time for an anxiety attack. My mind begins to spin as thoughts overwhelm my mind, I can't do this. My thoughts are interrupted by Heather's now less anxious and more giddy voice "Oh thank God you're here Virgil, I thought this show was gonna be a complete bust!" I turn to Heather with an apparent look of disgust on my face, shooting her a silent look which read "Really?" She quickly hushed herself as her grin then faded to a mere awkward, teeth baring smile. Before I had time enough to respond to her I was interrupted by an all too familiar chuckle from behind me, as I turned to see what the laughing was about I quickly focused onto Virgil's amused expression.
He is enjoying this way too much... Seeing me squirm like this, I was such an idiot to think that his stupid apology letter had as much as a single fucking drop of genuine remorse within it.
"What's with the long face Mattson?" He chuckled as he slowly waltzed his way towards me with careless amusement. I couldn't utter a response even if I'd wanted to. I was so overtaken with shock and anger. "What's the matter Mattson?" He asked again, this time his tone sharper, then paused as he still slowly and carelessly made his way closer to me, before placing both of his hands on my shoulders and leaned his head to my left ear "do I look so good that I made you speechless?~" The apparent smell of alcohol on his breath reaked, and I could almost hear that stupid grin in his tone. That's when it hit me. He played us all. Not just me, not just Sabrina and my friends, but he even played Thomas and the other sides. IT ALL MADE SENSE NOW.
He knew that Sabrina and the others had bought right into his little innocent apology the other day, after the outburst at the studio, and he knew that they'd take the first opportunity they could to get me back into dancing with a partner to help me 'get over Danny'. And he even used Thomas's genuine intentions of offering me a place to stay to make a Dramatic scene when he gave me that letter because he knew it'd catch me off guard and they'd all believe it to be genuine. HE PLANNED THIS WHOLE DAMN THING!
Next thing I knew, I pushed him away from me as he faked a shocked expression and a horribly rehearsed gasp, "Oh save it for the stage, punk prick!" I muttered angrily at him, and in that moment I knew he'd been made aware that i 'd caught onto his pathetic plan. He tried desperately to keep his act up as I turned to Sabrina, now just realizing she'd still had no idea about his sneaky lies. "Listen Sab, I am not going out on that stage with that sorry excuse for a--" i was cut off by Sabrina's angry screech as she grabbed my arm and shook me as hard as she could in her fit of rage "--Oh for fuck sake Riles we're just trying to help you! Why can't you see that?! " I tried desperately to withhold myself from shouting back at her because I knew in her eyes she'd still thought this was all done under good intent. I took a deep breath before calmly replying "Sab please just listen to me for a second..." "NO!" She's yelled back at me almost immediately, "You listen to me! All we are trying to do is help to get the old Riley Mattson back!" I stared at her blankly as she grabbed my hand tightly and continued to shout at me, "The Riley who'd be to rehearsal an hour before us and leave an hour after, the Riley who would do insane stunts on the fly, with no rehearsal just because she wanted to put on the best damn show for the crowd that she could, the Riley who would party with us after a gig and not care if she got a lil drunk and careless, the Riley who would live her life the way she wanted and not lock herself in her room ten minutes after we got home from a show! " I had no words. I had expected Sabrina to scold me about the present but what I hadn't expected was those words she had just said that had once again resurrected the all too bitter past, but before Sabrina could go on any further or before my mind had even the slightest clue as to what I was doing, I shouted back at her, now just as angry "You want to help me? HELP ME? You think setting me up to dance with--with THAT, " I pointed furiously to Virgil before turning back to face a still enraged Sabrina "is going to help me?! Are you blind?!" I let an angry laugh escape my lips, which only seemed to infuriate Sabrina more, as I walked away from her, my back now facing her as she replied "YOU CAN'T FEEL SORRY FOR YOURSELF FOREVER BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED WITH DANNY! BECAUSE IF YOU WANNA HAVE A PITY PARTY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE... THERE'S THE DOOR! " I heard her fall to her knees as I quickly turned around to see her now on the floor sobbing into her palms, Marissa and Ethan already at her side, as I went to join them I accidentally caught Virgil 's gaze, he had a look of fake concern plastered on his face while Heather was still near him, but as she also made her way to aid Sabrina, he quickly flashed me a devilish smirk and wink, before returning to his rehearsed concerned expression, my blood was boiling at the mere sight of him, but I had to push my anger aside and think of Sabrina right now, she'd been fooled by him as much as me, if not more. It's one thing to play me, I could care less, it's happened to me so much already... But to play my best friends? ESPECIALLY Sabrina, and even Thomas?! I couldn't understand how or why he was doing what he was doing, but I was hellbent on clueing them all in on his devious plan, and Sabrina was gonna be the first to know.
(A/N HEY Y'ALL SORRY I BEEN GONE FOR AGES, HAD A LOT GOING ON. HOPE Y'ALL ARE STILL INTERESTED AND INVESTED IN THE STORY THOUGH!! I'LL TRY TO UPDATE IT AS FREQUENTLY AS I CAN FROM NOW ON!)
