Stuck in an Ocean of Trees
I leaned on the bus window as my head continuously hit the window as the school bus went over the bumps in the road.
It seemed like the bus would never reach its destination, and I felt trapped, listening to the laughter of my fellow classmates as I sat on the bus by myself.
Brooklyn and Alex had some type of romantic multiple dates in a day thing planned out for the three day weekend and could not aid me on my adventure to talk to Aspen.
I still hadn't prepared myself for the words I would say once I saw him; I only knew of the guilt that would wrap my words if I didn't say anything to him.
But, nervousness wracked my brain. What would I even say to him? I'm sorry that a possessive, supposedly gang leader labeled me as his in front of the cafeteria? There is no apology that I could say that would efficiently fix the look on Aspen's face when he would finally set his eyes upon me.
I was doomed and stumped on how to fix the situation.
When we arrived to the camp grounds, the bus driver stopped the bus with a sudden halt that indicated that we had arrived at the infamous camping grounds. Everyone grabbed their bags and stood up, anxious for the bus doors to open.
As I got off the bus, my face met the earthy smell and the loud chaos of the senior class. The glistening lake in the background captivated my attention as the rest of my classmates ran off the bus, ready for room assignment. The camping grounds had the potential to be a beautiful hideaway, but my loud classmates ruined the serenity and peace with all their clamor.
"Ok, make two lines for room assignment." Mr. Collins, the art history teacher yelled over the chaos that was the senior class. The students formed a loose line as they gossiped and stood near the person they wanted to bunk with.
Seeing as though the art teacher was assigning people to rooms, I knew that this trip would not fail to be what the trip was last year, an excuse to have sex in the woods. The art was not very desired elective among the senior class, meaning that the art teacher knew nothing of the class hierarchy. He was going undoubtedly assign couples and hook up buddies together unknowingly.
"Hey." A voice said behind me as I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Aspen. My throat got chocked up and shattered as I faced him. His warm brown eyes and his gentle smile somehow comforted me and made me hate this camping trip a bit less.
"Hi, Aspen." I said with a quiver in my voice, not making real eye contact.
I panicked. What do I say? Do I apologize? Do I pretend to forget about Kiah's actions?
"Hey, I know things are probably weird between us because of the whole Kiah cafeteria thing, but I wanted to let you know that it's not a big deal." He said with a sweet voice, soothing my anxiousness. I smiled as I finally made eye contact.
"Really? I mean if I was you, I'd probably have a lot of questions, and I would be very confused." I said with a chuckle. He smiled with a reassuring look.
"Well, to be honest, I do have questions, and I am confused." He responded with a shrug.
"Go ahead. I'm an open book. I mean the least I can do is explain the circumstances of all this awkwardness." I said, returning a shrug.
Before I could really explain my situation, Mr. Collins signaled for the boys to head to the west side of the cabins and for the girls to head for the east side of the cabins. I chuckled; maybe, I was wrong. Maybe, this trip won't be as sexual as I thought.
"I guess I'll see you later then. " Aspen said with a nudge as he headed for the west cabins.
I grabbed my bags and followed the senior girls to the cabins.
