LIANA Holly would never have considered herself a potions prodigy. In fact, she would have thought of herself as painfully average at the complex subject. However, unluckily for her, in order to study care of magical creatures further, she was required to be taking specific subject combinations to compliment and support that. Which is why on her first day of term she found herself sitting at one of the benches in the dungeon beside Hermione, her eyes nearly slipping closed with boredom.

"God I wish I could've dropped this subject- Slughorn makes me want to tear my hair our if this is his idea of fun," grumbled Liana as she and Hermione leant forward slightly at their bench to get a better look at variety of potions around the room.

Hermione shook her head in feverish disagreement at once.

"Oh no Liana- look- these are the most advanced potions we've tackled yet, that one there is ammortenia- and there's Felix Felicis too!" Hermione exclaimed in a hushed whisper as she gestured towards the various bubbling pots and cauldrons.

Liana squinted at the potions, turning her nose up as a smell caught her. It was an overpowering whiff of what smelt like to her broomstick polish, cigarette smoke and sour apples.

"Why does it literally stink of broomsticks and apples in here?- and cigarettes too although that's probably just me reeking of them," Liana complained as she pulled a face. Hermione shrugged in confusion.

"I can't smell any of that, I can smell toothpaste rather strongly though-" Hermione rubbed her nose, as if trying to waft the scent away.

"Good morning class! Lovely to meet you all- gather round me now if you can, squash in nice and close-" Slughorn announced cheerily as he strode into the classroom, his professors cap balanced on top of his round, bald head.

The whole class stirred as they clambered up from their seats and began to cluster round the front desk, which was laden with all the unfamiliar potions for this year. Liana slipped past Lavender Brown to stand at the front, enabling her to get a better look.

As Slughorn clapped eyes on Liana they widened slightly, the blue becoming even more filled with avid excitement and recognition. Liana chewed her lip nervously. She remembered distinctly how in the summer of fourth year she had questioned Slughorn's niece about her mother's disappearance and how her mother had been taught by Slughorn at the end of his career.

"And what is your name-?" Slughorn questioned softly in Liana's direction as the class fell silent, waiting for the teaching to begin.

"Liana Holly, Sir," Liana introduced as politely as she could manage, hoping to avoid any kind of public spectacle in front of most of the class. Sulghorn beamed at her.
