Prologue.
My name is Valarie Nicole Stone. I'm 18 years old and a senior in high school. I just moved back to my hometown, Langston. I moved away two years ago because of "Trouble" also known as America's very own Heart throb, Langston's golden boy, Zachary Henderson. The nickname "Trouble" kind of stuck with him after he got himself involved in gang activity and was charged with arson and drug possession.
Zachary is very rich, loaded even, I think the word I'm looking for is wealthy. But he hurt me so bad, that even if he had the whole world I wouldn't even look his way. In the 9th grade, Zachary and I dated. We were young, stupid and naive. You know, the normal requirements to be in a relationship at that age. I was so blinded by love that I couldn't read between the lines. Things ended horribly between the two of us. Our families are still business partners, so I'm stuck with seeing him at luncheons and charity events, but I can manage.
There's only one way to go and that's up. I'm going to avoid him throughout this school year but you know what they say "Trouble will find you no matter where you go."
