"Thank you, Sanji," you said with a small smile. "I'm sure dinner will be as delicious as ever."

"I hope so! Eat up, (Y/N)-san!" he said, chuckling a little.

Was he laughing because I eat a lot? Is there some running gag about me being overweight or something that I don't know about? Everyone else is laughing, are they laughing at me or having their own conversations?

You stared at your food, no longer having much appetite. You withheld a sigh and began eating slowly, your stomach too unsettled to take in food well. You felt stuffed, despite not having eaten since lunch, and like every bite you took added to a pile of pain in your stomach.

"Are you not feeling well?" Sanji asked.

You glanced up from twirling your fork in your food before shaking your head. "Sorry, just feeling a little lightheaded," you lied. "Just kinda spacing out."

Chopper, who'd been sitting next to you, picked up on the conversation. "(Y/N), is it bad enough to need anything?"

"Hm? Oh, no, it'll pass. Don't worry about it, thanks Chopper," you said with a smile. The reindeer nodded and continued eating.

You barely finished your plate by the time everyone had finished seconds. With a short sigh, you were the last to excuse yourself from the table. In the nearly empty kitchen, you rinsed off your plate and put it in the other side of the sink.

"(Y/N)-san."

"Oh, Sanji. Did you need something?"

"Are you really alright? You seemed really spacey, a little more than lightheaded."

You forced a small laugh, hoping to lift the mood a little. "Don't worry about it, I just get lost in my thoughts too easily."

He kept a concerned expression, his shining blue eyes inspecting your face, as if looking for a hint for the truth. You tilted your head down, uneasy about your imperfect skin. You watched his feet take a couple steps towards you and his hand lift, securing itself on your cheek and just under your jaw. He lifted your head and returned his gaze to your eyes before speaking.

"I do worry, though. A lot. You know why?"

He took another step forwards, the distance between you two narrowing to just a few inches.

You swallowed. "Why?"

"Because I love you."

He must've either been extremely confident or seen the joy and relief and happiness shine in your eyes for a split moment, because he smiled widely and leaned in closer.

Whether this is real or just a prank... the result has to be the same... You stepped away and shook your head. "I'm sorry, Sanji. I really like you as a crewmate, but I don't love you."

You rubbed your arm awkwardly. "Sorry," you muttered again before speed walking back to your room. You fell onto your bed and sighed into your pillow. From inside your pillowcase, you took out your diary and pen before lying on your stomach to write an entry.

Another one about your useless love and your useless anxieties. Maybe, you wrote, with a soft sigh, if I weren't so useless, it'd all work out.

____

"Hey, Nami?" you said, heading onto the deck from your room. "Have you seen a (F/C), leather notebook? It has a little clasp that folds around and keeps it closed?"

She hummed. "I don't think so. Sorry, you might wanna ask Franky. He's been doing repairs here and there, he might've found it."

"Noted, thanks Nami!"

"Sure!"

You headed down to Franky's workshop, but no luck. He hadn't seen it either, but he'd keep an eye out for it.

You'd gone through the crewmates excluding Sanji---you were definitely going to try to limit your interactions with the man as much as you could for the time being. Sighing, you headed into the kitchen once you were sure the blond was distracted handing Nami and Robin their lunches. You grabbed the dish of (Food) and snuck back out, heading to your room to eat.

You couldn't help but sigh again, knowing that you wouldn't be able to avoid him forever. You took a few slow bites before a few soft knocks sounded on your door.

"Come in," you called.

You heard the knob turn then the small click of the door closing. You glanced over.

"Did you need something, Sanji?"

"Yeah, I heard you were looking for this?" he said, holding up your journal.

You shot up. "Yes! I was, thank you so much," you said, standing to grab it. He pulled it out of your reach just before you could grasp it.

"Hold on a second. So this is yours," he said as you gave up with a sigh.

"Yes, it's mine," you said sharply.

"Last night, you said you didn't feel the same. But that's not it at all, is it?" he said softly, slowly lowering his arm.

You snatched it as soon as you could before sitting on your bed. You hugged the thing close to your chest in a means of both relief that you found it but also comfort for yourself.

He took a seat next to you. "Is it?"

"No, it's not," you mumble, furrowing your eyebrows. "I really, really like you."

"Why did you turn me down, (Y/N)-san?"

"Because I care about you, Sanji. I want you do have everything you deserve and more. You don't deserve me, I'm leagues below you. I don't want you to have to have me."

"What are you talking about? I mean, I do agree. I don't deserve you," he said.

Despite you knowing it already, hearing the words from his mouth made your heart shatter, the pieces sinking.

"Somehow, we end up here, both of us thinking the same thing. But the same feelings, nonetheless. I love you, and you're far too amazing in my eyes for me to ever deserve you. You're perfect, I don't know how you could ever think anything less of yourself," he said, his blue eye shining with genuine care.

You swallowed, your heart suddenly rising so high, only to be caught in your throat. Your mouth twitched slightly upwards, and you couldn't help but blush and turn away.

He chuckled quietly and gently turned your head to face him. "Don't turn away," he murmured. "Let's be honest this time. (Y/N), I love you. Will you be mine?"

You let an amused huff escape your lips. You'd always been his, from the very beginning, even if he didn't know it. "Of course."

Your voice was small, barely audible, but more than enough for Sanji to bring you into a soft kiss. His lips were surprisingly soft, and you suddenly felt self conscious of your own, chapped lips.

But when he pulled away and couldn't stop smiling, your insecurities were dissolved instantly.
