EXT. GRASSY FIELD–DAY

The robot stands silently in the field and VANESSA observes it closely. RANDI walks up to her and silently hands her a black notebook. Randi has a backpack full of notebooks.

VANESSA CONT'D: What's this?

RANDI: The new codex.

VANESSA: Wait, you actually stole it?

RANDI: Yeah.

VANESSA: How did you manage that without any police catching on?

RANDI: Uh...

CUT TO:

EXT. "CURIO SHOP" RUN DOWN STORE–NIGHT

A brick crashes loudly into the window.

RANDI: Hell yeah! Fuck you, Ambrose!

BACK TO:

EXT. GRASSY FIELD–DAY

RANDI CONT'D: I was very careful and quiet.

DARCY V.O.: Dudes!

DARCY runs towards Vanessa and Randi. He pauses to catch his breath.

DARCY: Did you see the window at the Curio Shop? Someone broke it!

Vanessa looks at Randi in annoyance. Randi pays no mind.

RANDI CON'T: Oh, hey there buddy. You want a notebook?

DARCY: Uh, sure?

Randi hands Darcy the notebook and Darcy opens it.

DARCY CONT'D: Wait. Is this the notebooks from the Curio Shop?

RANDI: Uh... no?

VANESSA: Randi broke in and stole it.

DARCY: Randi what? (To Randi) You know they might arrest you!

RANDI: I'll be fine. Anyways, the cops won't be able to track me down. There's no one to report the crime. Ambrose is in jail anyways.

VANESSA: You said you were careful.

RANDI: And I said I was quiet.

VANESSA: I bet that was a lie too.

RANDI: Oh well, too late to do anything. I already gave Lucy one and we tried messaging each other on it. Works pretty well but the only downside is there are no notifications.

VANESSA (sighs): Now we really can't return them.

RANDI: That we can't.

DARCY: What were you doing here anyways?

VANESSA: There were some vague notes in Jasper's workshop. I think he's connected to the robot somehow.

DARCY: How about we ask Peter's opinion?

VANESSA: He's here?

RANDI: Yeah, he's sitting right there.

PETER sits at the base of the robot and Vanessa does a double take.

VANESSA CONT'D: When did he get here?

RANDI: He was here when I came.

VANESSA: He was?
