"...i'm quirkless."

"oh." they both responded, not knowing what to say.

"i was bullied a lot when i was a kid for being the only one quirkless in our class." he added. this time, he started looking up the sky, his eyes were described to hold a lot of pain, yet he still had the courage to smile and even chuckle about that topic.

"there's nothing wrong with being quirkless... is there?" uraraka asked and iida shook his head. "who in their right mind would think that?" the boy suddenly looked down at them, surprised at their response. "really?"

"yeah. people who take advantage of quirkless people are just boastful and prideful of themselves. it is our duty to protect our families, the people we love, and the city. even the quirkless people are part of the things heroes need to protect." iida said.

"by the way, we're gonna go now. mic-sensei gave us this long english assignment and it's an essay." uraraka's face suddenly look drained and tired, nd looked like 30 years of life was just sucked away from her.

"uraraka-san had asked, but you did not have the time to answer." iida said, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose again. "what's your name, kid?"

the boy simply smiled, the two not having the idea that that smile held a meaning.

"deku."

"ohh? it sounds like, 'you can do it!'." the girl said.

"it does?"

"yeah! did your mother name you that because of the meaning?"

"actually, the one who bullied me named it to me, because it means 'useless'."

"no it's not! no one's useless. if i can say, i think he's the useless one. having a quirk but not using it for good and just abuses other people? that's messed up and he's not using his powers right. he doesn't deserve those powers." uraraka said.

"if it only were that simple, that if you don't use your powers for good, it goes to the people who deserve it." midoriya said as he looked down.

"okay for real, we're gonna go now this time."

"oh?? i'm sorry i kept you for long!"

"it's fine, it's fine. it's better that we make friends outside ua. it's one of the factors of being a hero: communication." iida said.

"goodbye, deku! see you again! do your best!" uraraka clearly made a word play as she and iida waved goodbye at him.

"goodbye!" he waved back, with a giant smile on his face, like a kid being given a candy.

just as they turned around, their heartbeat thumped loudly and they stood still. their eyes wide open and their mouths grunting from the pain they felt in their hearts.

the boy who was smirking on the railings behind their backs disappeared.

"w-what was that?"

they both turned around to check on 'deku' but did not see the smiling boy by the bars.
