Roselia's POV
"What is it that you wanted to say to me?" I whispered as we approached the large round table for the family of the bride and groom.
Right in the center of the ballroom with a huge chandelier hanging above it.
Talk about center of attention.
"Nothing." He took my hand tenderly. "It's just that you look beautiful tonight."
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Dani, Nana, Vanessa and Evan eye me with confused looks. I shot them a confused look myself because I didn't know what was happening anyway. One moment I lecture the biggest business mogul in the world and the next, I was sitting down in the same table as him along with his family and his daughter's groom's family.
Anya cheered as I took the seat beside her. As soon as I sat down, she whispered to me. "I was getting bored already because of adult talk."
I smiled at her quirkiness and glanced at Jenna who avoided my gaze as she ate.
That's unusual.
"How nice of you to join us, Roselia." Jasper's father -Harrison- was the first to welcome me to the table with a forced smile. His four bodyguards guarded his back and became statues. The groom's folks sent me a small smile whereas the groom kept his face stern and composed. "Doesn't she just resemble your mother, Jenna?"
"Uncanny." Jenna rolled her eyes and still didn't look at me. Did I do something wrong?
"She's the only one who has the common sense to suspect something." Apparently, Anya had a lot more guts than a usual teenager.
"Anya!" Her mother scolded with wide eyes. "Keep your voice down!"
"I apologize for my youngest. She tends to have no filter." Her father apologized to everyone at the table, radiating an aura of command and authority, exactly like someone who belongs to the military.
"I think everyone has a right to speak for what they want, don't you think?" Jenna shut him down and glanced at her father to spite him. Aarav glared at Jenna for disrespecting both sides of the family.
"Not if what they want would destroy their future." Harrison replied with ice dripping from his tongue, demanding complete obedience from everyone on the table.
"Remind me again father." Jasper challenged him with the same amount of malice. "Why do you think you have secured a good future?" They sat across each other separated by the newlyweds, having the most amount of distance but the perfect amount to wage war with their eyes.
Something tells me this was more than Anya speaking her mind.
"Jasper." The groom's father started with a thick English accent. "Fathers only wants what's best for their children. You need to understand that."
Aarav spoke up. "Was this the only option, pita? To marry me off?"
"Ouu! Burn!" Anya playfully commented from beside me.
Okay! Now that children were having the stare-down of the century with their parents, I thought it was the best time to leave.
"Get me out of here." I leaned into Anya's side to whisper to her ear. We both studied the atmosphere that turned to stone as a result of their cold stares at each other.
"Enough." Harrison's authoritarian voice demanded in the middle of their battles. "You children need to understand that this is for the best. Our decisions are decisions from adults. You shouldn't go against us. We are now one family whether you like it or not. Now, if we could just enjoy one single dinner together, that would be great."
