"What do you mean James was playing you all along?" Chase's voice asked as we walked side by side towards school.
"I wasn't sure you knew, but he used our plan against us, he's been with Caitlyn this entire time," I replied, as cars zoomed past us.
"I'm going to kill him,"
"Chase, honestly, you're better off with just pretending nothing happened, I didn't call you to put you at war with your brother," I replied, closing my eyes briefly.
"No way, I'm not pretending shit, he hurt you and I'm going to kill him," Chase replied.
Sighing, I lifted my face to feel the bitter cold wind bite against my skin. "I just want this all to be over, at this point I don't even care what Caitlyn knows," I replied.
"I'm still going to kill him," he said, matter of factly.
I couldn't help but smile. "Thanks for being so protective over me though," I said, turning my head to look at him.
He shifted. "We used to be good friends, I mean we weren't besties but I like to think we could count on each other," he replied.
"Of course," I replied giving him a small smile.
He smiled back before gesturing ahead of us. "I can't believe you like walking to school," he said, as he swooped down and picked up a rock.
"Gives me time to clear my head and think about the real important stuff," I replied.
"Like what?"
"I don't know, like life, death and that muddled stuff in between," I replied, shrugging.
"I don't want to die" Chase said suddenly.
I raised an eyebrow. "At all?" I asked.
He shook his head. "That sounds incredibly long and boring, I mean to live forever, watch everyone you love grow old and die while you don't change," I replied, as we stopped at the bridge that separated the town from the school.
"Could travel, experience so many things," Chase stated.
"But what do you do when you've done all that? Just sit in some room, never growing old?" I asked.
Chase shrugged one shoulder. "If I could have it my way, I wouldn't do it alone," he replied.
"True, it would suck even more if you did it alone," I replied.
"Come on, we're gonna be late" he said quickly.
We hurried the rest of the way to school and we made it just as the warning bell rang, signaling we had a few minutes to get to class. "What class do you have?" He asked as we stopped at my locker.
"Math first up and then we have English," I replied, grabbing the needed books.
"Alright, I'll meet you at English," he said, touching my shoulder before jogging off.
I slammed my locker close and spotted James walk into the hallway with his head down. As of sensing me looking at him, he looked up and our eyes met.
I tore my eyes away and walked in the opposite direction. I could still feel the white headed boy's eyes on my back as I walked away but I ignored it.
Reaching the math classroom, I found my seat and sat down, waiting for class to start. The last few people walked through the door just as the bell went again. The teacher hushed the class and began.
Suddenly, something thunked against the back of my head and I turned around quickly to see a wad of paper lying on the floor.
Looking up, Caitlyn and her group of girls were silently giggling. Reaching down, I picked up the paper and opened it.
You got played.
It was scribbled in black marker, and my face must have shown an emotion cause the giggles from the girl group, grew louder.
I scrunched up the paper and dropped it into my pocket, ignoring them for the rest of the class. When it was time to switch to our next class, I got up, only to be knocked into the desk as the girls pushed past.
Scowling, I straightened and walked to my next class. Chase was waiting at the door to the English room and lit up when he saw me, only for it to fade when he saw my face.
"What happened?" He asked immediately.
"Nothing," I lied as I gave him a fake smile.
"Christina!" I heard a yell.
I turned my head to see James jog towards us. Chase pulled me behind him, before crossing his arms. "Whatever you have to say to her, you can say to me," Chase stated.
James stopped before glancing at me. I looked down. "I just wanted to apologise, for everything," He said quickly, his eyes still on my face.
The ground seemed to interesting.
"A bit late for that brother, I think you should leave," Chase said, gesturing to the hall.
"Since when did you get him to speak for you?" James asked, talking to me.
"Don't talk to her James, or I swear to god I will punch you" Chase snapped.
"No you won't, I'm brother, but Christina, I swear to you I know it was wrong bu-" he was cut off as Chase stepped forward.
"I said back off James," he snapped.
James turned his attention to his adopted brother. "Just let me to talk to her," he said, studying him.
"I think you've said enough," Chase replied, crossing his arms again.
"Chase, you don't know what happened, okay?" James stated.
"I don't? So you didn't betray me or her by siding with Caitlyn and using our plan against us?" Chase asked.
"Chase, it's fine, forget it, lets just go to class" I said quickly as the argument was drawing a crowd.
I turned away to walk into the classroom but James grabbed mt arm. Chase reacted. He pushed his brother back. "I said back off James!" He snapped.
James straightened up. "So now that I'm out of the picture, you think you can play hero and then she'll magically fall in love with you?" James snapped.
Chase lost it and swung his fist right into James's jaw. A gasp ran around the gathering crowd and people got out their phones. James bounced back and hit Chase.
"Stop it!" I yelled as Chase pushed his brother into the opposite wall.
They began to scuffle and the chanting crowd drew teachers. "Hey, break it up!" My english teacher snapped, grabbing a hold of Chase.
Blood ran down the top of his lip and the P.E teacher grabbed James, his lip busted. "Both of you, Principal's office now!" Mr Laurence yelled.
I stepped back as the P.E teacher took Chase and James, leading them down the hall. "Miss Asherton, get inside," Mr Laurence said, ushering me inside.
A/N
It seems Chase wasn't lying when he said he was going to kill James.
