Jungkook stared up in slight surprise at Taehyung, not expecting the boy to be standing only a few feet away from him. He only froze, pausing in his actions whilst looking back at the boy, who wore an expression of sheer shock.
"Leave, Taehyung," he said quietly, finally breaking the silence filling up the gap between the two of them. However, he noticed how the servant boy made absolutely no signs of obeying his orders, causing the Prince to repeat his words, this time much harsher.
"I said go. It's an order," he spat out, attempting to mask his bloody hand by hanging his oversized sleeve over it, although he knew it was to no avail since it was clearly obvious Taehyung had already seen the damage.
"No," the elder mumbled back, taking a step towards Jungkook. "I can't leave when you're like that," he continued, his eyes darting up to focus onto the Prince's face instead of his hand. "Let me clean it up. Please."
Jungkook remained silent, giving the boy a hardened look. Over the past few days, his thoughts had been a complete mess. He hadn't yet decided whether he wanted to shun Taehyung away after his actions, as he knew he hadn't initiated the kiss, although the imprinted image of Hoseok kissing Taehyung couldn't leave his mind. Yet, as he looked on the hurt expression washing over Taehyung's facial features, he found himself nodding to his offer, not really understanding why. It seemed he couldn't muster up enough willpower to push the boy away, no matter how desperately he wanted to.
Taehyung nodded gratefully, before motioning for Jungkook to follow him back into the palace, to which the younger complied to, allowing the blue-haired to lead the way. The two walked in a tense silence, neither one of them knowing what to say to the other. Taehyung thought it best to give the latter a sufficient amount of space during the past few days, as he knew their fight was predominantly his own fault, although he'd been unable to think of anything but the Prince lately. He actively avoided Hoseok as much as he could, spewing countless of ridiculous excuses in attempt to stay as far away from him as possible.
Once the pair reached the kitchen, Jungkook swung the door open, immediately feeling relief flooding through his body as he was met with an empty room. Despite him growing extremely close to both Seokjin and Jimin lately, he couldn't help but want a little alone time with Jungkook for the time being, as he wished to sort out the heightening tensions growing between them then and there.
'You can wait there if you like," Taehyung spoke awkwardly, motioning to one of the kitchen counters. "I just need to find Jin's medical aid."
As Jungkook paced over to where the boy motioned to, he leaned back against the counter, finally turning his attention towards his hand. Despite having an extremely high pain tolerance, the Prince couldn't help but wince at the surging pain coursing through his hand. He very much doubted he'd been lucky enough not to break anything, since it was evident that his fingers were already beginning to swell up marginally. Meanwhile, Taehyung approached him a minute or so later, this time clutching onto a first aid bag.
"Why did you do it?" he mumbled softly, staring down at Jungkook's hand as he pulled out a wad of tissues, beginning to gently wipe the blood off him. He didn't miss the grimace of pain washing over Jungkook's pain, as well as the suppressed hiss slipping past his lips, causing Taehyung to slow down his actions, applying much less pressure than before.
"I don't see why it'd matter much to you," the Prince spewed out, staring daggers into the boy in front of him. "Seeing how you practically-"
"Jungkook," Taehyung interrupted loudly, raising his head to shoot the Prince a look of pure annoyance. "You know I never intended for the kiss to happen, so quit acting as if I went out to betray your trust and just accept that I do like you, and that I would never intentionally hurt you. Okay?"
The raven-haired pressed his lips into a taut line, internally knowing Taehyung was right. There was simply no point in keeping his tough act, as he was very much aware that it would crumble regardless, since he had absolutely no self control when it came to the servant. Even though he experienced unexplainable anger each time he thought of Hoseok, he knew it was only right he remained angry at the Northern Prince, and the Northern Prince alone.
Taehyung hadn't had any control over the matter.
Choosing to ignore the boy's last comment for the sake of his own pride, Jungkook chose to answer his first question, swallowing the lump in his throat as he did so.
"My Father has decided to confirm that I'll be wedding Jennie in the next few months. So he's held a ball in four days time to celebrate our engagement," he revealed bitterly, emitting a dry laugh seconds later. "Amazing, isn't it? I'll be spending my life with someone whom I have no fucking attraction to. How brilliant."
Taehyung, on the other hand, remained quiet. He couldn't ignore the lump building up in his throat, which he hastened to swallow, in return only experiencing a wave of sheer sadness. He attempted to hide his inner feelings, by continuing to clean Jungkook's hand, tossing the bloody tissues towards the side every few seconds or so. The fact that the Prince, whom Taehyung had caught so many feelings towards was about to marry his mistress destroyed him. Despite knowing he had no right to feel this way, since he was only a mere servant, he couldn't help but begin to feel slight tears forming in his eyes, to which he tried to hide by keeping his head low.
Jungkook seemed to notice his change of behaviour, causing the Prince to look down at him immediately, virtually feeling a wave of panic once his ears perked up due to the sound of a small sniffle coming from the boy in front of him.
"Tae?" he spoke up gently, waiting a few seconds for a response which never came. Instead, he withdrew his hand slowly away from the boy, using his spare one to tilt Taehyung's chin up, giving him a clear view of the servant's teary eyes. If Jungkook claimed he hadn't felt his heart completely shatter at the sight ahead of him, it would've been laughable.
"Taehyung? Baby?" the Prince murmured, cupping the boy's cheek with his right hand. "Baby, look at me. Please."
The sudden use of the pet name captured his attention almost immediately, causing Taehyung to look up, feeling his cheeks flush at his vulnerability in that moment. "I'm sorry. I know I don't have a right to get upset, because we aren't-"
"Hey," Jungkook said, cutting him off. "Who's the one who's captured my attention, hm? Is it her?"
Taehyung shook his head, hastily wiping his eyes with the back of his hands. He felt so embarrassed crying in front of Jungkook, as he'd known the Prince would've eventually been forced to marry her, although it seemed as if it would be ages away.
"Exactly. I like you, Taehyung. No one else," he soothed, running his fingers briefly through the boy's tangled blue strands of hair. "And I'm sorry for acting as I have been lately. I know it wasn't your fault, baby. At all. Forgive me."
"But you're going to marry her regardless, Kook. Even if you feel attracted to me, what's this going to do to any of us? It's only going to make the goodbye harder."
Jungkook shook his head, tugging Taehyung towards him so that the two of their chest's were pressed up against each other, allowing the Prince to wrap his slender arms around the boy's petite body. "No, it won't. I won't let anyone take you away from me, Tae. I swear. I'll think of something when the time comes. I promise."
In that precise moment, although both boys were wrapped in each other's embrace, inhaling the scent of one another, the two of them knew in the back of their minds that their journey together wouldn't be perfect. They were fools to ever think it would. The fact one was a Prince and the other a servant was immediately a magnet for trouble.
However, Taehyung found himself foolishly nodding at Jungkook's promise; a promise which should have never been made.
