Chapter 36

I flinch away from the blaring light as I look at the clock to see that it is 3am.

I've spent hours trying to make sure the pack will be fine when Xavier has to give up his Alpha title.

I knew Ethan would make a perfect Alpha, he is kind, funny, caring and puts everyone first, but by the time Xavier steps down, he will be passing down his Beta title.

Little Justin is a possible candidate for the position but he is a hybrid, although the most of pack aren't aware, eventually everyone will know and he may be hated by some for it.

I groan and close my eyes, growing more annoyed by the brightness of the lamp but feeling too lazy to turn it off. I didn't know what to do. There didn't seem to be any right option for the pack. Even if I did have children, they'd be in danger with my crazy ancestor running around, waiting to snatch them.

I couldn't let Xavier deal with this, I wanted to do it on my own, but I don't think I can. There's so much going on, my brain feels like it's in a paper jam.

I hear padding across the floor and the door knob turning as a tired Xavier walks in, yawning and stretching his arms in the air.

"Beth, what are you doing up so late?" Xavier asks, staring at the files I have spread across my desk.

"I'm just...trying to figure out some issues, I'll be in bed in 5 minutes I promise," I say, hoping he will leave, I didn't want him to worry anymore than he already is.

He nods, slightly disoriented and shuffles back to the bedroom.

I sigh and gather the files and put them away in a random drawer.

As I get up and walk to the door my phone rings, I search around the room for it, not even aware I had it back, find it in my desk drawer and answer it.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Hello my...niece? Let's go with that, I'm just calling to check on the fetus that you should currently be carrying," Edward's voice filled my ears, making me freeze, almost dropping the phone.

"You stay away from me, you're fucking crazy!" I try to keep my voice quiet, but my anger gets the best of me as I raise my voice at Edward.

"Now now now, there's no need for that, is there? I knew you wouldn't be very compliant which is why I propose a deal..."

I stay silent, there is nothing he can offer me.

I go to hang up when he says, "I will give you back your wolf, in exchange for as many children as I need..."

I freeze once more, my finger hovering over the big red button.

"What did you just say?"

"You heard me, you can get your precious wolf back, after I get the children of course, I still need you to be able to go through the human shift."

I quickly hang up, my heart pounding in my chest and my hands shaking, I could get Eartha back?

I shake my head, no it's not worth it...but it's Eartha, I could finally be the Luna I want to be...I could be stronger for Xavier, I could be a better mate.

My phone pings and I look down to see a text from Edward's number.

Tonight, 3:15, meet me where we met before.

This is ridiculous, I'm not going to be a breeding machine for him, he wants to use children to make an army for gods sake. He slaughtered my ancestors just to have me, someone who can survive the human shift.
