Chapter 16

We arrived in the Dorsenburg in the evening. We climb out of the train carrying out our own luggage and greet by people who took us to the checking area. They thoroughly scan our luggage for suspicious items and made us walk through the metal detector gate. Darren and Leonard strip off their translation device and hand it to them, while I make sure they know I didn't wear any, to begin with.

Several men in official uniform approach us once we get clearance. "Ave!" greet the frontman, welcoming us. "Gratam patriae."

Those phrases are enough to make me realize what language they use. Latin, a common tongue in old age. I'm surprised that there exists a place that this language is still being used as the main language. In many other worlds, this language has transformed a lot. Some only use it for scientific purposes.

"This man will be your assistant while you stay here," that official said while pointing a younger man wearing a simple white shirt and brown pants. "Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Oza and I'll be your assistant and translator while you are here," said the young man. "Show them their place to stay," said the official. "Yes, master," said Oza. "Please come, I'll show you your quarter."

Oza brought us to a house in the capital, for foreigners to stay for official affair. The house will be clean every day and the servant would prepare the breakfast in the morning. Oza said we can do whatever we want around but suggest us not to wander too far as the people here don't understand our language. He asked us to take a rest for the day and would like to give us a tour around for the next day. The discussion would start on the third day. I immediately notice their sneakiness by listening to the schedule. They only permit our stay here for six days. Day one is for the arrival, day two for the tour, and the last day for us to leave. It means that we only have three days to discuss our proposal and persuade them to agree with it. Well, if they are the kind of people who can be work with, this schedule is actually quite efficient. Somehow, I'm skeptical this will run smoothly.

After Oza finish introducing the servants that will work with us, he asked permission to leave. "Wait! I have a request," I suddenly said to him. Oza just nodded and listen. "Can you tell the chef not to serve food containing peanuts? I'm allergic to that," I said. He just smiles at me. "Remove peanuts from their dishes. One of them can't eat it," Oza instructs the person who seems to be the chef. Afterward, they excuse themselves.

"You can eat peanuts," Darren said to me. "I'm just testing how he translates our words," I defend myself. Darren doesn't say anything and let me go off.

The next day was spent by getting the tour around the city in the morning and heading to the palace after lunch. We were getting introduced with a brief history of people who founded this kingdom, those who become the royals and nobles. Kinds of Stuff that I already know from the book. The palace is amazing and I'll enjoy the tour if Oza not explaining too many details of every single room, picture, or ornaments there. Praising how great their kingdom is. Really, that's too much information.

Now, Darren is having tea time with the royal family after our tour. As the occasion was exclusive to nobles, Leo and I end up waiting outside the garden. I'm curious about the leader of this country, but I need to act my role as a butler. "Why don't you join the party, Sir?" Leo who stand next to me suddenly asked. I look at him for a while before answering, "I'm here as the butler, remember?" Leo asked me to just call him that instead of Leonard. He is a really quiet and cautious person who just do what Darren told him. I rarely interact with him as I don't feel any need to say anything to him. We just here to did what Darren asked us to.

And.. it seems like the tea party went well.

Darren came out from the garden with an older man and a smile on his face. He gave the man a bow before walking towards us. "Don't forget to prepare all the documents for tomorrow. King Alexis seems to support the deal," Darren said as we follow him. I gave him a nod as we get back to our place.
