The lease on my apartment had finally ended two weeks later, but we had mostly everything over at the new house except for the bed, Rosie's crib and clothes.
"I can't believe we're finally moving in together," I smiled as I started putting what was left of Rosie's clothing into her suitcase. "Better late than never, right?"
"Right," Gerald chuckled in agreement as he pulled the bedding off of my bed. "In all honesty, we should've done it while you were still pregnant."
I shrugged as I stuck my bottom lip out, walking over to kiss him.
"We do things in our own special way," I laughed against his lips. "Everyone should know that by now."
His hand gripped my ass cheek and squeezed it harshly causing me to groan against his lips. He sucked on my tongue, but I pushed him away, laughing when he whined.
"Okay, that's enough," I said as he frowned. "We have to be out of here by noon, and it's already 10:15."
Xoxox
Just barely by the skin of our teeth, we packed up the remains of what was left in the apartment and drove separately to the new house. I got out of the car and went to the backseat to get Rosie out while Gerald started unloading.
"I have a surprise for you when we get inside," He called as he picked up a box. "I've been working on it all week, and I think you're really gonna like it."
"That makes me nervous," I laughed as I carried Rosie's car seat into the entryway. "What is it?"
"You'll see," He smirked as he followed me in. "Put her in the pack and play and follow me."
I gently picked Rosie up out of her car seat and walked over to the pack and play, laying her down and covering her up with a blanket. She somehow managed to stay asleep, and I didn't want to wake her any time soon.
Gerald covered my eyes with both of his hands and walked me down the hallway to one of the bedrooms which made me a little confused.
"I thought these two rooms down here were bedrooms," I said as we walked into the room on the right. "Or at least that was the plan we talked about."
"It was," He said as we stood there with his hands still over my eyes. "But since we've got the two bedrooms and two empty rooms upstairs, I figured we could use these rooms down here for us. One for me to write and record, and the other for you," he said as he took his hands off my eyes.
I gasped loudly when I could finally see again, looking around with a smile on my face. Gerald had turned this room into my own walk-in closet, complete with shelves, clothing racks and organizers, a makeup vanity complete with LED lighting and a touch screen mirror plus a couch and a rug.
"Gerald!" I squealed as I walked around the room, looking at everything. "How did you do all of this?"
"Easy," He smiled as he watched me while leaning against the door frame. "Kait came over a couple of days before the wedding and helped me install all the shelves and stuff. She organized the clothes that you started bringing over here, and I did the rest."
"I love it," I grinned as I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his torso. "Thank you," I giggled as I leaned up on my tippy toes and kissed him.
He squeezed my ass again as he kissed me, sucking on my tongue again. I groaned softly as my back hit the wall with a thud, but we were interrupted when Rosie started to cry.
"We'll finish this later," He promised with a whisper against my lips. "You can count on that."
Gerald smacked my ass before ducking out of the room to go tend to Rosie while I stayed in the walk-in closet to look around and just take it all in. My phone rang, and I smiled when I saw it was Kaitlyn.
"Hey," I chirped as I sat down on the couch. "Gerald and I are moving into the new place and he showed me the walk-in closet. You helped him with all of this?"
"Yeah," She laughed into the phone. "I didn't trust him with organizing your closet alone, so I came over and helped him. Do you like it?"
"I love it," I smiled as I looked around the room. "I'm thinking of maybe hanging up some fairy lights and pictures of us and Rosie in here after we get everything all moved in. The lease ended this morning, and Gerald's ended last week. All of our stuff is here, we just have to unpack it."
"You'll get all moved in, I can't wait to see your new house," Kaitlyn said with a yawn. "Hey, listen. There's something that I want to talk to you about."
I shifted on the couch and couldn't help but tense up - those words usually didn't mean anything good, so I was a little scared.
"Grady and I got approved to be foster parents," She explained. "But I told you that on your wedding night. What I didn't tell you is that we took a little boy during an emergency situation. We got the call about 3 in the morning about a week ago."
"Really?!" I said as my eyes grew wide. "Oh, Kait, that's great! I'm so happy for you. I mean, it's terrible that it was an emergency, but I'm happy for you. What was wrong?"
"He," She paused, shutting a door behind her. "His name is Rowan, and he was abused, liked severely. His mom's boyfriend did most of it. He was starved, and our caseworker told us that she got her daughter taken away."
"Wow," Was the only word that I could get out. "So does that mean he's officially yours?"
"Yeah," She breathed out. I could tell she was crying. "His mom signed over his rights. We just have to wait for the petition to be reviewed by the court. Then we have the adoption hearing and can change his last name if we choose."
Tears welled up in my eyes when Kaitlyn told me about what she has to go through with Rowan. I never understood why anyone could have a baby and then just abuse them, but not everyone is nice and has a heart of gold.
"I'm sorry that you have to go through all of that," I whispered as I wiped my eyes with my fingers. "But he's in your and Grady's care now, so I know he's going to be surrounded with a lot of love. He's in a good home."
"I want you and Gerald to come meet him sometime this week," She said quietly. "But he's got bruises on his face that are still healing, so don't be alarmed when you see him. He's warming up to us quite a bit, and I want him to get to know you, Gerald and Rosie."
"Okay," I said with a small smile. "Text me later this week and we'll plan it out."
Kaitlyn had to get off the phone because Rowan woke up from his nap, so I went to go check on Gerald and Rosie. I told him about how they adopted a little boy named Rowan who was abused, and he was near tears. It was one of the only times I'd ever seen him cry.
"That's fucked," He said as he looked down at Rosie, who was asleep in his arms. "But we'll go see him. I can't wait to meet the little dude. I'm so fucking happy for her and Grady. I know they gotta be over the moon happy despite the situation that Rowan came from."
