"We're here

"We're here. Let's go inside" Jace says in his bored tone from earlier.

He hasn't looked at me once, and his strange behavior is making me feel uneasy. I'm starting to get frustrated at his bad attitude, I don't feel safe to go in with him if he's acting this way.

"Wait" I tell him and surprisingly, he listens.

"What happened? If you didn't want to go, then why'd you even pick me up in the first place?" I say with courage, trying not to offend him in the process.

He sighs deeply and is quiet for a few seconds.

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a dick. Something happened earlier, but I shouldn't let it out on you" he adds, before closing his car door.

I don't know what I expected, but his words leave me surprised. Seconds later, my car door opens.

"Come on, we're here to have a good time" he says giving me a half-smile which I return. "You look gorgeous by the way" he adds, holding out his hand for me to take.

"Thanks" I whisper at his compliment shyly, happy and relieved that I said something.

"Let's go" he says, placing his hand on my upper back.

Slowly, he lets it glide down before resting his hand on my waist, to guide me towards the front door. His touch is gentle, but it's doing all sorts of things to me. I already feel the stares of many people, but I try to ignore them as best as I can.

The front door of the house opens, and we enter right after people emerge from where the loud music is coming from. Inside, the air is very thick, it feels like someone should open a window in here. I instantly feel uncomfortable, but try not to show it too much. People are playing beer pong on various tables throughout the house - in the kitchen, in the living room, and outside in the garden. Alcohol bottles are scattered everywhere, this house looks like a complete mess and I feel sorry for whoever has to clean all of this up tomorrow.

"You look surprised. Never been to a party?" Jace asks me, coming close to my ear to talk to me.

He sends shivers down my spine while doing so.

"I have, just not ones this big" I answer, leaning up to him so he can hear me.

He only chuckles in response. Jace grabs my hand and leads me into the living room. On our way over, he has already greeted more people than I've ever been friends with. Thankfully, none of them look as scary as his friends from the pond.

Bree was definitely right when she said he was popular. Especially the girls are eyeing him, and I feel judged by every single one of them. I feel small, and I hate the attention I'm being put in the center of.

While Jace greets more people, I take a look around to distract myself. Boys and girls are dancing eagerly, grinding on each other or making out. They all seem drunk already, but maybe this is just the way it is at these kind of parties.
