"She might not talk, but she can tell one hell of a story"
Dia doesn't talk by choice, only a few people know why. She communicates by sign language and so her friends were left with no choice but to learn the language so they can understand her.

"It's called ability shift. You're able to switch between abilities" Professor Charles explained to 18-year-old Rhys Noble Huxton. "Take Jonathan here, for example, he has the ability to mentally and physically control plants. It's called chlorokinesis. Now you, Rhys, you can switch from Iron Man to plant control. And from there you can switch to any other ability, like Logan's claws, or Storm's weather manipulation, even to my telepathy, it really all depends on you"
"I can do all that?" Rhys softly asked in surprise. He didn't know his mutation is this strong.
"Yes, with practice of course" Charles nodded.
"What about me?" The almost 18-year-old Dia asked. "I can do the same thing Rhys can, but you said I'm not a mutant"
"You're not" the professor softly shook his head. "But your case is still very interesting Dia. I'd like for you to take classes here"
"I already graduated high school" she answered.
"We offer higher education for our older students" Charles informed "also, I heard that you got into the International Institute of Visual Arts. That's THE photography school. Congratulations Dia" She couldn't help but smile at that.
"Pretty sure she faked her way in" Jonathan joked which earned him a punch on the arm from Dia.
"And by classes, I mean that you have private lessons with the staff. You and Rhys, of course."
"So we would learn how to make it rain with Storm and the various ways to get grumpy with Logan?" Dia asked.
"Mind reading with you and Jean? Laser shooting with Scott?" Rhys continued.
"Firework appreciation with Jubilee. Disguises 101 with Raven. Is Magneto a teacher too?" Did finished.
"We'll find out if you agree to take classes here. We'll work around your school schedules, don't worry about that" Charles assured.
Ability shift. Being able to shift between abilities. The name is pretty straightforward. Rhys and Dia accepted the offer and soon came to realize that it's much more than ability shift.
"The three of us in the same school" Jonathan spoke up "it's gonna be wild, one of us is gonna end up dead, just you see"
"I think it'll be me. I'll probably end up impaling myself with an icicle or something" Rhys mumbled with dread. "What if my head explodes for messing with telepathy?"
"Please don't. I've always sucked at making friends" Dia told Rhys.
"Oh, that reminds me, Dia, you gotta meet this guy I met last week. He's a blind ninja" Jonathan turned to Dia. "And there's this girl that's so strong! They're so cool, you're gonna like them"
