I sat on the bed with my knees pressed against my chest, the rain was pouring outside and Alle had raised concerns about the party and how our make-up would be smudged and running down our faces. I had laughed. Now that the rain was pouring harder and harder, I worried of a flood, because we lived across many bridges which were our only routes into town.
My blankets were soft and comfortable as I picked up the remote and turned my TV on, the show that was on was a kids show called something around the lines of Ben and Holly's small kingdom. I clicked on the library section and looked for something fun to watch, it was a Sunday morning and I was bored out of my mind, nothing to do, and nowhere I wanted to go. Alle had left to hangout with Immogen and Ihzhak had basketball practise for an hour and my uncle had work. The only person here was my aunty Zara, but she was busy gardening outside.
I heard the doorbell go off and Aunt Zara saying she'd get it, but she was busy so I went down stairs and opened the door. In the doorway stood Vanessa. She gave me a shy wave and I gave her a small wave back.
"Hi, uu - umm, what're you doing here?" I asked in the kindest voice I could manage.
"Well, I thought you'd probably be lonely, and because you have no friends at school yet and I'm not working, so I was thinking that maybe we could hangout and get to know each other? Become friends?" She asked and stated. I moved aside to welcome her in.
"Sure, I could use with some friends." I managed. I couldn't believe Vanessa had come over to my house just to hangout with me. I felt happy that someone thought I was worth their time. Vanessa held up a shopping bag as I closed the door.
"Well, I thought we could watch a movie, so I brought popcorn and snacks." Vanessa commented. I laughed.
"Well weren't you right, I was actually just looking for a movie to watch." I replied.
"Where do you want me to put this?" she asked me. I smiled, and told her we'd be sitting in my room and watching a movie, so she followed me up the stairs and into my room.
"Omg, your room is beautiful." Vanessa stated with a gaping jaw as she looked around, I had had the same reaction when my family introduced me to it.
"Yeah, it's pretty good." I said. I walked over to my bed and sat down, patting a spot next to me. She quickly sat down and placed the food next to her.
We sat in silence for a few minutes before we decided to get to know each other before we did anything.
"Okay, my turn, what's your favourite colour?" she asked me. I tapped my chin thinking of all the possible ones and tried to chose my favourite out of them.
"Mint green." I stated, she did an elbow pump and I laughed.
"Mine too. Now your go." She stated. I nodded. We had been plying twenty questions for about an hour, getting to know each other through that.
"What's your dream job?" I asked. She looked thoughtful and took a moment before answering.
"A flight attendant." She answered.
"Me too!" I said back, amazed that we had so much in common.
"What's your favourite book or book series?" Vanessa asked me. Well there was the Medoran chronicles by Lynette Noni, red queen series by Victoria Aveyard, the Trylle trilogy by Amanda Hocking, Throne of glass series by Sarah J Maas and the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy by Laini Taylor.
"Umm, that's a hard one, but probably the Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni." Vanessa raised her brows.
"I haven't read that series before." Vanessa commented. I laughed.
