Chapter 114: Fifth Life - Hearts Apart

Early in the morning, I hear knocking on the door.

"Oh my God, who is it?" I yawn still half asleep. I stretch out on the bed and pull the covers over my head.

Knock. Knock.

"Ugh."

I throw the covers off, angry that someone is disturbing my sleep.

Flinging the doors open, I yell, "What is it?!"

Yang Zi Huo's hand is raised about to knock again. He stops when he comes face to face with me.

"Sorry to disturb you, Yuxing."

"What do you want?"

"We're heading to Shui Jing Mountain now. Weren't you looking forward to it?"

"Ah? Ah, you know. I just realized now's not the best time for me. My arm still has to heal, and I'm feeling a bit ill. Why don't you and Ming Yan go on ahead? She seemed excited to finally be able to go enjoy the hot springs."

I attempt to close the doors, but Yang Zi Huo's right hand remains firm on keeping it open.

"Your arm looks healed seeing how you're trying to close the door on me." He eyes me up and down.

"Oh? I mean ow. It hurts." I immediately mimic pain in my shoulder, holding my arm as a delicate piece of cloth.

"Come." He puts his arm around me. Putting pressure on my back, he makes me walk with him to the entrance.

"Yang Zi Huo, I didn't even get a chance to wash my face, and you're already making me go out in public."

I cover my face with my hands, peeking out in between fingers.

"You look fine." He leads me to a carriage waiting for us outside. I quickly enter expecting to see Ming Yan on board. 

Yang Zi Huo finishes his reason for asking me up so early. "Besides where we're going, it'll just be the two of us."

"What?!"

The horses set off, and I almost fall out of my seat. Yang Zi Huo catches me and our eyes meet. In his arms, I realize our lips almost touched. Pulling away, I situate myself back into my seat to the left of him.

"I mean-- Isn't Ming Yan coming with us to Shui Jing Mountain?" I ask panicking with each minute passing.

"She is going to Shui Jing Mountain, but we are not."

"Where are we going then?"

"You'll see."

"Yang Zi Huo, is it a habit of yours to take me places against my will?"

"Let's just say this is all permissible according to your one chance I've received."

"Well, it isn't." I smile sarcastically. "Why didn't you just teleport us there?"

"I'd like to enjoy the scenery there with you."

"Tch... Why didn't you allow Ming Yan to join us?"

"She's never been to the hot springs at Shui Jing Mountain. Therefore I had Wu Jing go along with her."

"I think she would have preferred it if you went with her."

"Why are you trying to push me and Ming Yan together?"

"Aren't you happy to be paired up with her?"

"I just think it's odd you want me to be with Ming Yan almost as if you don't mind it."
