#5 ~ The Fear (Part 1)

Season 3, Episode 9: Be Very Afraid. If you haven't watched it yet, I wouldn't read this one, as this will spoil the whole episode. Or parts of it. Your fear in this chapter, is Varian going back to his old ways and using to get revenge on Rapunzel. This chapter was 1683 words long.

It was a beautiful morning in Corona. The sun had just came up. It had probably only been a week, since Rapunzel had got back to the kingdom and everything had been restored.

You were on the way to non other than Varian's house. He had returned home recently. He hadn't told you much about what happened to him. He was a friend. Even though, everyone thought you and him were more than that.

You pushed open the door to his house to see he was fast asleep, his head on the table. You rolled your eyes. He always overworked himself. You were going to walk over to him until he jerked up, pushing his chair back and backing away from the table.

"No, wha-" he said, before running to the door (not even noticing you standing near it) and opening it. Quirin passed by pushing a wheelbarrow full of apples. He looked over at him.
"Morning son" he said, as he walked past.

You walked out to stand next to him and he looked at you.
"Oh, sorry Y/N! I didn't realise you were there," he said, sheepishly rubbing his neck. You smiled.
"It's fine Varian" you said. "Anyway, what happened? You seemed fine one moment then you jerked awake the next".

He chuckled.
"Just another bad dream, that's all," he said, brushing it off. You nodded, not really taking note that this was starting to become a recurring thing.

Suddenly, a familiar squeak came from below you both. You both looked down to see Ruddiger. He climbed up onto Varian's shoulder and started squeaking to him, as if speaking to him.
"What is it bud?" He asked. The raccoon continued to squeak before climbing down and running to what looked like... the black rocks?

You and Varian followed, and you both watched Ruddiger sniff the rocks before backing up. Varian kneeled down in front of them.
"Woah, this is new," he said, inspecting them closer.

Time Skippp

You and Varian were running around the kingdom looking for Ruddiger.
"Ruddiger?!" You both called out. You eventually heard a squeak, and you're guessing the way Varian reacted also meant he had heard it to.

You both saw Ruddiger's silhouette. He was running across the roofs, for some odd reason. You both decided to follow him. Varian ran in.
"Hey buddy, where you headed?" He asked.

He kept running forward, as suddenly Ruddiger took a sharp turn the other way. Varian groaned and continued running the way he was. You heard him groan and he ran back, continuing to follow the squeaks.

You followed close behind, as you saw Varian quickly skid to a halt in front of two villagers. You stopped next to him.

"Oh, sorry," he said, chuckling a little and rubbing the back of his neck. He put his other hand up and did a cute smile.
"Hi"

Feldspar blinked twice. He didn't look very pleased.
"Don't you have a kingdom to overthrow or something?" He asked. He turned his head away, a frown on his face. Varian chucked a little. You stayed quiet, knowing it was your place to comment on, even if it really annoyed you.

"Yeah, um, you haven't seen a raccoon around here, have you?" He asked, smiling and rubbing his neck with his other hand before placing it down. Feldspar didn't respond, his face still facing the other way. The woman on the other hand, made some sort of annoyed huff noise, and the baby she was holding started crying.
