"It's snowing!" Rye exclaimed as they sat down for dinner. Xavier looked around the glass interior of the greenhouse to admire the white flakes that feel around them. A genius idea began to form in his mind.

"Would you like to go somewhere with me tonight?" He asked Rye as they sat down for dinner.

"Where?" She asked.

"It's a secret."

"I don't like secrets."

"I think you will like this one."

Rye thought for a second before nodding and saying "Okay."

"Perfect," Xavier smiled, "Be ready when the snow stops."

The snow didn't stop until 1:30 AM.

Xavier suggested many times they cancel the plans and Rye get some sleep, but to that Rye just replied, "Don't be a chicken!"

They passed their time in the library reading books by the fireplace. Well Rye did. She was on the quilt by the fireplace, laying on her stomach with her ankles crossed and swaying in the air. Xavier was on the armchair reading the same paragraph for the 5th time because all his mind could think about was how beautiful Rye looked in front of him in the golden glow of the fire.

Suddenly, Rye turned her head towards Xavier and caught him staring. "It's rude to stare, you know."

"My apologies." Xavier said sitting up straight and clearing his throat.

"What do you usually do in your free time?" Rye asked. She had changed positions and was now laying on her back looking up at the ceiling.

"I like woodwork," Xavier said quietly.

"What do you build?"

"Whatever I can. Chairs, bowls, birdhouses..."

"Birdhouses?" Rye asked in disbelief, "The Alpha King, feared by hundreds, likes to make birdhouses?" She giggled.

Xavier rolled his eyes.

"I think it's quite beautiful." Rye said in a fake English accent. "You know you're much nicer then I imagined you to be."

"Did you imagine your mate to be rude and harsh?"

"No, not my mate. I don't want one remember? I mean you, as a king. Growing up I had always assumed you were some mean old man sitting on a throne yelling at everyone."

"Why did you picture that?"

"I don't mom was always away on business for the king, so my mind just conjured that up."

They both fall into silence after that, only the crackling of the fire could be heard.

"Rye?" Xavier asked in a deep voice.

She sat up and looked over to him. There was a strange look on his face, "Why don't you want a mate?"

Rye's heart hurt from the way he asked the question. His voice was so low, like he was afraid of the answer. She looked past him to the window.

Rye could still feel Xavier watching her.

She turned to look at him, "It's stopped snowing."

Back in Rye's room a pair of heavy winter booths and a ski jacket was placed on her bed.

She quickly dressed, eager to find out what Xavier had planned and went downstairs. Upon seeing her, Xavier gave her a mischievous smile and lead her outside where a snowmobile was waiting for them.
