Drew

I pushed down on the gas...

And quickly sped through the intersection!

Oh

 my

GOD

Couldn't be doing anything more dangerous!

"Okay! How do we get to the high way?!" I asked Emma.

"Take the next right!" she replied.

I nodded and she asked "Where do we go!?"

"Lea! We have to!"

"Lea!?"

"She's neutral remember!?  We can't go to Matt's, Oceane's or Flynn's, that's just bringing them into this! Plus it's all residential we'll never get past the cars!"

We screeched around the corner, followed by the revved engine of the car still behind us as the rain started up again, getting heavier.

I came to the next intersection where the road connected to the highway. I had to come to a halt as cars came speeding down the way.

"How far away are they?" I asked as I waited for a gap to appear.

"Not that far..." She turned around.

Come on... come on...

I pushed down on the gas again as a small gap appeared and I manoeuvred into the run of cars, many coming behind us.

I released a deep breath as I relaxed in the chair, turning my headlights on.

Em gulped and pushed her hair back, holding onto the car door armrest.

Can I just say...

Neither of us are adequately dressed for this. Emma's in one of my oversized Button-up shirts and her big white socks..

I'm in my jeans, socks and my button-up shirt with only two buttons done.

So. Yeah.

And it's raining!

Great...

I took Emma's hand and focused on the road.

"Are you alright?" I sighed.

"Not really... All that stress? Yeah. Flooding back in." She nodded.

This is what I mean.

Every time I try and give her something to be happy about. Every time I get her to smile.

Someone jeopardises that! And it sucks. Big time....It's not her fault. But it's not her fault...poor girl.

We pulled up in the field by Leas house a while later and the rain still poured.

"Let me see if there's anything in the back to help out." I went to the back seat and started to flick through the miscellaneous crap in the boot.

"If you have a pair of shoes in there that would be great." Emmy sighed.

"Sorry sweetheart no shoes. But I have a windbreaker with a hood?" I handed it to her.

"What about you?" She turned to me.

"I only care about you, remember? I'll be fine. It's not much of a walk."

She nodded and said "Thank you..."

So, with no shoes we walked through the muddy field in the rain and cold.

I held onto Emma's hand as she tried to walk in it. "Baby, when I said I like doing the dirty work, I didn't mean it literally..." She sighed.
