He was relentless.

Then again, I did bring this upon myself and made the amateur assumption that he would either forget my little jab or not press on about it.

I had been proven wrong come Monday morning. He met me by the lockers practically begging for a date on Saturday. He said he would take care of everything and that the only thing I had to worry about was getting dressed in something nice as he'd be taking me to Starlight City.

I'd shot his ass down so many times I lost count.

It was already Thursday and he hadn't given up. I have to say, I admire his persistence. We had the same class that morning's first period and I was welcomed with something quite odd as I strolled into class almost five minutes before the bell rung. He wasn't in class though.

Pretty much everyone had gone quiet upon my arrival which was a normal occurrence now and the buzz of Asylum Case's return hadn't died down just yet. Students still whispered and looked at me oddly. Some spat ugly names. Others went as far as making a scene, clearing a path or steering far away when they saw me in the corridors as if I carried some fatal disease.

Ignoring the whispers and stares of everyone around me, I made my way to my desk to find what had everyone buzzing more than usual.

Carter had developed a habit of buying me edible things and this time, I was greeted with a single white rose and a cup of strawberry yogurt with a plastic spoon still in its package resting on a slip of paper that had one word printed on it.

The paper on my desk read, 'Date?'

I applaud his commitment. He'd gone and wasted paper and printing ink just to make it glamorous.

Forcing back the urge to smile and keeping my expression blank despite the feelings this little gesture aroused, I touched the petals of the flower only to realize he'd outdone himself with something so small. It was a real rose.

Usually, I would reject flowers. It's not that I didn't like them. I do, just not as gifts for the simple reason that they are over commercialized and used for pretty much every occasion making their significance irrelevant.

Anniversaries, weddings, funerals, get-well gestures, apologies, Valentine's Day. The list goes on!

But this was different. For two reasons. I had never been given flowers, so it made me feel special. And then there was the meaning. He could have bought an entire bouquet, but he went with a single white rose. Flowers and their respective colors held meaning and this gesture only proved how much he liked me when confessed that night. Gifting a person one white rose meant devotion and love.

Of course, the yogurt came second to none.

Plopping into my seat, I ripped open the cup and the spoon out of its package as I dug in. Of course, I should have known my fans wouldn't leave me alone.

They were so obsessed with everything I did that it was becoming difficult to tell whether they hated and liked bullying me or were in love with me or something.

"Looks like Asylum Case has a secret admirer." Brent Harper took a jab. This guy was a pest with an annoying need to be heard everywhere. And the admirer isn't secret. I'm sure everyone here knew who he was including the bitch who spoke next.

"Oh my god! I know, right!" came her shriek as though it were the most unfathomable belief that someone could like me. It was hard to ignore her especially when she came right up to my desk and I had to hold my breath. Her perfume was too much suffocating and when I glanced at her, I wondered how the hell Vince let his girl child leave the house wearing that much make up, with clothing that fitted and nearly all of her breasts hanging out. My sister was not a flat chested girl.
