WENT OVERBOARD
"Kailan ba siya magigising?"
"Sigurado ka bang okay na siya?"
"Oo. Nag tanong na rin ako. Pero kailangan pa raw si—"
"Shut up. Umalis na kayo."
Mga boses na naman sa paligid... Not just one—but four voices in different corners. I bet those are my friends—except for Uryll na hindi naman ako kinikilalang kaibigan. Hindi na ako aasa sa taong 'yon! Parang ipinaglihi sa sama ng loob. Pinapamukha lang niyang wala akong kwenta—as if naman siya rin. Well, maybe meron pero hindi ko makita. He's just a man with a silver hair and a rude attitude for me.
Why can't I open my eyes again?
Bakit sa tuwing gusto kong buksan ang mga mata ko mas lalo akong namamanhid? Bakit palagi na lang akong nakakulong sa madilim na lugar na 'to? Wala akong makita. Naririnig ko lang sila sa paligid ko. Gaya ng nangyari sa akin, kahit pwersahan man ang pagsasalita ko, wala pa ring boses na lumalabas. I feel numb. They kept on talking and talking, pero ako 'tong sigaw ng sigaw pero hindi napapansin at naririnig.
What's going on with me?
Am I already invalid? No, please. No.
I do have a lot of questions in my head. Pero hindi ko magawang mag tanong dahil hindi ko mabuksan ang mga mata ko. I am free to talk but I have no voice. Great!
"No. I'll stay here beside her until she wakes up." It was Wina. She seems decided at what she said.
What did I do to have them as my friend? I'm such a lucky girl!
A deep voice trailed off. "You can't." I'm perfectly sure that it was Uryll Hutchinson—the grade-A asshat.
"Why can't I? I am her friend, so babantayan ko rin siya!"
"Win, you're not the one who was assigned to look after her. Bumalik na tayo sa mga bahay natin." Rio said. I can feel him pulling Wina away from the side of my bed.
Rinig ko ang lagapak na parang pinalo na kamay, "Isa ka pa ah! You're getting into my nerves already, Rio." She sounded like she's giving him threats. "I will kick you in the na—"
"Shut up!" Uryll shouted.
That made the twins shut their mouths up. Guess, hindi lang pala ako ang sinisigawan niya. Wala talagang sinasanto 'tong kumag na 'to. He doesn't give a damn at all. So Uryll! I never seen him pissed at his friends, pero I'd give anything to see him in that state. Ang sama ko na ba para humiling ng ganoon? Ano kaya ang itsura niya ngayon?
Wait—What?
Seriously?
Ngayon lang nag sink in sa akin ang sinabi ni Rio kay Wina. Seryoso nga? He was assigned to be my guardian? This is hilarious! Uryll? Bakit siya? Pwede namang si Wina na lang. I don't want him around lalo na't ayaw niya naman sa akin. Technically, he's just my partner in Miss Moore's class. Wina is my roommate and I think she's fit to guard me here for now.
"Bago pa man may mangyaring hindi maganda dito, I think we should leave. Let's just visit her right after our class." I know it was Briz's voice. The chairs were dragged, and I knew they stood up. "Uryll, we better get going... I can see your brow's creasing already." He let out a chuckle.
