IT WAS THE NEXT DAY AND DIANA CAME TO THE STRIKING REALIZATION THAT SHE MIGHT HAVE ACTED SELFISHLY THE NIGHT BEFORE. After her argument with Billy, she was met with the gaze of her two older siblings—the same gaze parents would give their child to let them know they were in trouble.

Guilt instantly flooded her senses once she realized they searched the town for her. She wasn't the only one affected by their father's indiscretions and she was wrong to act like she was. Her anger was justified, but the way she went about processing it wasn't. She hated worrying them. She didn't want to be another thing on their list of problems. At the very least, she could have left a note. So she stood there silently as Allison and James scolded her for going missing. She took it like a champ and gladly accepted their welcoming embrace after their speech was finished.

Throughout the day, the only thought that plagued Diana's mind was that of Billy Hargrove. She was always prone to overthinking. It was her worst habit. And as of two in the morning, her habit shifted its focus from ruining her family to ruining her friendship with him.

She didn't understand her desire to hear him confess his feelings anymore than she understood the mess her life had become. She didn't have many people she could count on anymore. She used to have a boyfriend, and a big group of friends, and tens of people at her beck and call. Now, all she had were her siblings, Robin, and Billy. She guessed she had Eddie now too considering he offered up his friendship. But regardless, she couldn't lose anyone else.

Billy stood by her and cared for her more than she cared for herself. She didn't ask him to do that, and she didn't want to lose whatever friendship or potential relationship they had over her own stubbornness and pride.

Perhaps she was searching for validation. Maybe for once, she just wanted to be good enough for someone to actually want her.

"Why do you look like that?"

Diana looked over at her brother, only to find him staring at their television. Her brows furrowed and she squinted. "Like what?"

"Like you're constipated," James replied, chuckling as he met her gaze.

"What— I do not look constipated!"

"Whatever, you have your thinking face on," he dismissed. "What is it? Is it about Dad?"

Diana sighed. "No."

"Billy then? He brought you home last night." His quizzical stare morphed into one of urgency and protectiveness. "Did something happen between you two?"

"No." She thought about it for a moment. "Actually, yes. We sort of got into an argument...?"

James raised a brow. He wasn't used to her opening up about her problems so the fact that she mentioned something going wrong surprised him. It seemed she was developing a habit—one he was rather grateful for. It wasn't good for her to keep her feelings to herself all the time. "Want to talk about it?
