"This. Is. Beautiful."

Sophie couldn't help but laugh at Keefe's enthusiasm as he ran ahead of her like a kid who'd just walked into a candy store.

After years of Keefe's father, Lord Cassius Sencen, keeping him locked away in their dark skyscraper in the city called Candleshade from the outside world besides letting him out for school, going to an amusement park was probably pure heaven in his eyes.

How had they made this happen for him? Oh, it had been far from easy for Sophie and the rest of her and Keefe's friend's to beat the car that came to pick him up from school and loose it completely. But, with Dex's ingenious plan that he still wouldn't completely reveal besides vaguely mentioning his pet skunk's involvement, they'd managed to make it this far.

"Oh Foster, shame on you for not bringing me here sooner! The food. The rides. They literally have 'Keefe, come for us!' written all over them."

Fitz rolled his eyes and laughed from Sophie's left, his arm hooked around his girlfriend's, Ashla.
(Loved her character so much turtleswift01 !)

Before Sophie could blink, Keefe had grabbed her hand and was dragging her towards the craziest rollercoaster in the park. "I NEED to ride that thing, Foster."

"Not with me you don't!" Sophie said, snatching her hand back. "If I go on that ride, I'll never make it."

"Aw, have some faith in yourself," Keefe said with a smirk as he grabbed her hand again and started dragging her closer to the ride.

"But I'll diiie," Sophie whined. And, honestly, she didn't care if she looked like a bratty little kid in that moment. She knew she wouldn't live if she went on that ride. And her stomach would hate her forever.

Dex loped up from behind them and patted her on the shoulder, the usual crazy, fun-loving grin on his face, his dimples making a prominent appearance. "C'mon Sophie, you'll be fine. You can do this!"

Sophie returned his grin with a small smile, but couldn't make herself smile any wider. Because death was inevitable if she stepped on that ride.

"Well, if I can't make you go on that ride now, I need some of that FOOD," Keefe decided, pointing at a nearby hot dog stand. And the fries were looking super tempting...

"Fiiiine," Sophie said with a laugh, and was rewarded with a grin from Keefe and a free lunch. Being the son of a very rich man, he could clearly afford it. Easily. But still, free food was the best gift ever.

"Thanks," Sophie said brightly as Keefe handed her her two hot dogs and jumbo bag of fries.

"Aw Foster, don't thank me. You're the one that let me eat. I'm clearly indebted to you," he replied with a quirky smile which she slapped him for.

"You goofball!"

A half hour later as they roamed the park, splitting the last few fries to Sophie's reluctance, Keefe spontaneously grabbed her hand and dashed forward.

"What— Where are we going?!" Sophie squealed, unable to hide a smile that somehow appeared on her face.

"You'll see!" Keefe called back to her, keeping his face on the path. But she still caught the smirk on his face that had an... unusual vibe to it. She'd never seen Keefe with that face before. Which only made her want to see why he was making it more.

"Hey!" Sophie cried when he got behind her and covered her eyes.

"Trust me, Foster," Keefe whispered in her ear, a defined smile in his voice that sent her heart on a new rhythm.

"I do trust you," Sophie whispered back as he started leading her up what felt like a ramp. She was trying to figure out what great rides had ramps when he told her to step over something, then sit down.

A minute later, he uncovered her eyes.

"Oh," Sophie breathed. They were on the ferris wheel, and Keefe had uncovered her eyes just as it started moving.

"Surprise?" Keefe said, quirking an eyebrow, clearly thrown off by her blank face.

"I love the ferris wheel," Sophie told him in a soft whisper as she leaned over to get a better look down as they rose higher. It was such a huge ferris wheel. Beautiful. And the sun was setting, which made it twice as beautiful.

Keefe scooched a little closer, and when he hesitated, Sophie scooted closer too and hesitantly leaned her head on his shoulder. This situation just felt so different from the times she'd done it before. More significant. And it made her extremely self-conscious.

"Thanks for bringing me up here," she said softly, and couldn't help but notice the way he smiled down at her as the ferris wheel screeched to a halt to let more passengers on, leaving them right at the top.

"Sophie?" Keefe asked after a second of silence, and it took her a second to realize he'd used her first name.

And that his face was suddenly much closer. So close she could feel his breath warming her cheeks. Not that her cheeks weren't already warming by themselves.

"Yeah?"

Keefe sucked in a long breath. Finally, he said, "I need to tell you something. Something that's been on my mind for a long, long time. And now that Fitz has Ashla...."

"Huh?" Sophie asked, totally lost.

He laughed. "Always the oblivious one."

And he said it in the most endearing way humanly possible.

"Sophie," he whispered in her ear, eyes half closed and somehow seeming to dread what he was about to say, or perhaps her reaction to it, "I... I love you."

Sophie sucked in a sharp breath, wincing away from him slightly. "Wh.... what?"

Keefe leaned away and closed his eyes completely, running a hand up his face and through his hair, tousling it more than it already was. "I knew this was a bad idea..."

As he began to move to the other side of the shuttle thing, Sophie grabbed his hand, stopping him. "No, Keefe. It wasn't a bad idea. I..."

She needed to digest what she was about to say before it spilled from her lips on its own.

"I love you too."

Now it was Keefe's turn to be in shock.

"What?" he asked, blinking in utter astonishment.

"Why are you so surprised?" Sophie asked with a nervous laugh.

"I don't know," Keefe said, slowly leaning in until he was an inch away from her face. "But I'm glad you decided to tell me. You have no idea how glad."

The seriousness in his voice was just about melting her. But what melted her more was when he leaned in all the way, and kissed her.

It was a sweet, tender kiss, and it lasted about a blissful ten seconds. But it was the best moment Sophie had ever experienced. And she'd never, never forget it.

As they pulled away, they stared each other in the eyes for a moment, then he enveloped her in his arms, and they held each other close until the ferris wheel brought them back to the ground.

As the descended the ramp, hand-in-hand, Sophie couldn't help but ask, "What about the rollercoaster?"

"Oh, I don't need to ride that thing, Foster. I only wanted to ride it because I was going to ride it with you."

She felt herself beaming as they walked in a cozy silence to the meeting spot by the exit their friends had agreed on, and left the park.

But Sophie knew in her heart she'd never forget. Ever.
