"(Y/N) (L/N)! Nice to see you back in this stinkhole!" Ede Ralel exclaimed, smiling triumphantly. The Nautolan bounty hunter propped his feet on the table and watched smugly as the stormtroopers escorted (Y/N) to a seat in the prison's mess hall. The guards forced the woman into a seat and walked away, leaving her to her own devices. It wasn't long before Ede leapt from his seat and pranced victoriously over to (Y/N). In spite of her clear resentment of him, Ede fell into the seat directly across from her own. She lifted her head in spite of herself, glaring at the man's ever-present grin.
"What do you want Ralel?" (Y/N) asked shortly. After getting arrested by the Imperials once again, she admittedly had little energy to spare.
"What, we're not on a first name basis anymore?" Ede asked, his chipper demeanor unwavering.
(Y/N) sighed. "Ede, why do you do this to me?"
Ede shrugged, his smile never faltering. "It's fun to annoy you."
(Y/N) groaned and laid her head on the table, hoping that such an action would be a clear enough hint to her fellow bounty hunter that the conversation had ended. Unfortunately, the initial reaction that she got out of him was an infuriatingly jovial laugh.
"I guess I'll leave you alone for a little while. But (Y/N), you've been in this business long enough to know that when I set my eyes on a target, I never let it get away."
(Y/N) lifted her head slightly as the man who had been both her friend and enemy for many years walked away, at last leaving her in solitude.
She sighed and sat up, folding her arms over her chest before resting them on the table. If only I hadn't listened to my parents, she thought, I'd still be free.
(Y/N) (L/N), for as long as she could remember, had lived the life of a bounty hunter. During her childhood, her parents had taken every job offered to them by the Separatist Alliance. In spite of her hatred of the war and both sides of said conflict, (Y/N) had assisted on nearly every mission that had been assigned to her family of three, which was certainly more than enough training for a child. As a result of her parents' lifelong commitment to the Bounty Hunters' Guild, (Y/N) had been offered no choice for as to whether or not she would pick up her family business once her mother and father had moved on. She had vainly attempted to run at first, however it was not long before the leader of her specific guild had sent other hunters after her. In spite of her protest, her sentence after her capture was to continue her parents' roles in the trade until she was no longer able to work. That, of course, meant that she would be forced to lead this life until the day she died.
. . .
"Ede, why did you become a bounty hunter?"
Ede promptly dropped his fork, the loud clang as it hit the plate causing (Y/N) to wince as it drew the unwanted attention of their peers to their small table in the corner of the mess hall. Ede gaped at (Y/N), a shocked expression plastered across his face. "What do you mean? Why wouldn't I want this job?"
(Y/N) sighed and hid her face behind her hand, waiting silently for the other prisoners to return their attention to their own business. She glared at Ede, who looked around sheepishly as he recovered his silverware and awkwardly waved to those who were still watching him. When their audience had finally disbanded, (Y/N) inhaled shakily and picked the conversation back up.
"Don't you feel like you've had to sacrifice an unrealistic amount? And all for what, some ancient guild that does nothing but keep you bound to a code and tells you what you can and can't do?" (Y/N) whispered, wrestling with the burning passion behind such words to keep her voice down. Ede stared at the wall behind (Y/N) thoughtfully as he engineered a response.
