I grew up pained.

And grew up well-loved.

If there was anyone who could understand this contradictory me it would probably be the Empress.

To be loved as a son of an Emperor isn't the ideal life. To fight for his love is similar to the in-fighting of the harem.

But because I was born from the right woman, one who was also conniving and sharp, I was also well-loved and spoilt.

Yet I never realised that my adored mother would also be the same as the rest of them.

Once more, I was treated like a puppet. But I wanted to be more than a puppet pulled by strings. I desired to be better.

More than just an incompetent Emperor moved by the whims and fancies of the corrupted, I will be an Emperor that rules the country based on my own ideals.

Again, I see that odd woman.

Gesturing to the eunuch behind me, I pointedly asked without words.

Eunuch De squinted his eyes at the sight before us.

"Responding to your majesty's queries, it seems to be the Empress feeding the fishes in the pond."

Eunuch De respectfully replied and kept his face down but the confusion of the sight before us was rather... Much.

Why was the Empress feeding the fishes again at the palace when we have servants for such menial tasks?

And why of all things, bread and not the fish food that is usual in the palace?

As I stare at the woman dressed in the heavy empress brocade flinging bread into the pond as happy kois swum greedily to the surface, I feel an odd sense of discomfort.

In any case, as an Empress, shouldn't you be gently feeding the kois? Why were the bread flung so viciously out as if you were throwing stones into the water.

I turned my eyes away from the weird scene before me.

This wasn't the first time to see such a thing happening.

I believe it was the...

....

Third?

Mm. Yup third time my esteemed Empress went down the lake to feed the fishes.

I should be concerned...

Eunuch De came again tonight with the tray that held the golden tablets of the consorts' names.

I absent-mindedly picked a tablet as the stack of reports before me dwindled little by little.

Moving away from the machinations of those people required more work than I had thought. It was a grim affair.

But I had a deadline to squash those bugs.

And those bugs would not stop me from my plans.

"Your majesty, please leave aside the work of today. I have already informed Emerald Palace to be ready for the Emperor's arrival."

Looking at the pile of work that remained, I clicked my tongue.

I'll say honestly, this was too troublesome for me to bother with now.
