As my feet hit the sidewalk, I felt my heart disconnecting from my blood veins and falling down into the deep pit of my stomach, beating insanely fast.

The mansion was mainly white, a long tile pathway with palms lined along the sides going all the way up to the glass doors, light shining through all the windows of the bottom floor.

My heart jumped back to its place and stilled as I looked to the windows. Large groups of men and women were standing in the windows, looking all of us up and down.

A harsh push on the small of my back sent me walking up to the front door, which was opened by two middleaged men in identical suits as I stepped in front of it. We were genet to the right, into a massive ... the best word I could find for it would be a ballroom.

Lines of men in fancy suit and women in beautiful dresses were standing, waiting, all with champagne in hand. A few had smiles on their faces, while most of their expressions were impossible to decipher.

The pushy silence was broken by a woman in a surprisingly stylish maid uniform clearing her throat. She smiled warmly at the crowd, taking an extra minute to make short eye contact with everyone in the room.

"Hello, and good evening to all of you, and I am one of your servers tonight. Alpha Allen will be right with you, but he has asked me to encourage you all to have a good evening and dig into the buffet-" she gestured to a long line of tables covered in all sorts of food and dishes that made my mouth water. "-if there are any problems, or if you need to use the bathroom, just ask me or one of my colleagues and we will show you the way."

She clapped her hand twice, and beautiful music started playing from the speakers. People started spreading out, but I was frozen in place, my sweaty hands locked together.

I shook my head to regain my focus. I had one mission for the night; avoid the eyes and attention of everyone and go home to my parents, and live happily ever after as a slave for the werewolves in the same moldy room I've lived in all my life. Simple, safe, and without being locked away and used for breeding.

The room quietened down in the matter of a second, and everyone in the room's eyes fell on something behind me.

I turned around to find the girl from the car, Everest, staring wide-eyed, open-mouthed at a woman standing in front of her. The woman's blonde curls feel down her back, and adoration swarmed her eyes as she stroked Everest's cheek, a wide smile spreading on her lips.

My heart clenched painfully at the sight. Poor Everest. She had just been doomed to a life as a sex slave. The woman took Everest's hands and led her out the doors, smiling from ear to ear all the way out.

The small talk began once again, and as everyone's attention was drawn off the door, mine wasn't.

The door was ajar.

The Alpha had forbidden leaving the grounds ... but he technically hadn't forbidden leaving the party ... and if anyone found me, I could just say that I had been looking for the washroom.

I looked around. No one was paying attention to me.

I walked towards the door as fast as I could in these impossible heels, while still not being obvious in my escape attempt.

I stepped out to the dark hallway, my attention falling on the light coming from the top of the stairway. I walked up slowly, cringing at every click my heels made against the dark-grey marble steps.

My jaw fell to the floor as I reached the top of the stairs. Through a pair of massive floor-to-ceiling windows, I was overlooking the city lights miles away. Everything from the blink at the top of the skyscrapers, to the tiny, yet, perfectly clear lights of the windows in the smaller homes spread out on the outskirts of the town.
